2bed/1bath apartment in Piegaro, Umbria WhenMay 2011, 1 week ReviewMy family (three generations) stayed at L'Antica Vetreria in the il Forno Uno apartment and it was a dream come true. The apartment has beautiful views and, while basic in furnishings, it had everything we needed. The grounds are beautiful, including a pool which was wonderful during the heat wave and has 'infinity pool' like views over the countryside. The pictures on the L'Antica Vetreria website accurately portray what the apartment and grounds look like. Colleen, the owner, was friendly, helpful and professional; she knows the surrounding towns and people well and can provide you with personal guidance to help plan your stay. If you can go to Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio with Colleen, take the opportunity as it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience of a beautiful winery/olive grove that is 100% environmental, off the grid. Their olive oil, packed in little bottles, was one of our favourite souvenirs and gifts. We also loved that L'Antica Vetreria is located in Piegaro, a small, quiet town with authentic Italian feel but without the tour bus crowds of larger towns. There is a great restaurant in Piegaro (authentic and innovative menu, excellent quality and prices) and don't miss the glass museum. With a rental car, the location of L'Antica Vetreria is convenient to many hill towns and Colleen has numerous itineraries to help plan your trips. The only downside with it is that there are four apartments and one villa so it might not be as private as renting a villa on its own. However, each apartment has its own patio area so you have your own outdoor space. Also, we enjoyed being able to walk in the evenings in Piegaro rather than staying in an isolated villa in the countryside. All in all, it was a dream come true and a hidden gem.
