Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 5056: Agriturismo Cretaiole, La Casa del Contadino
apartments on a farm near Pienza, Tuscany South
2011, One week
A few minutes drive outside of Pienza in the Val d'Orcia. The lodging is a two-story farmhouse divided into several apartments. We rented one of the two upstairs apartments for our family of six (children ages 9-18). The views in all directions were serene and spectacular.
The nearest market is in Pienza, a village about a five-minute drive away. It's possible to walk to Pienza as well through some fields.
The building was an old farmhouse converted into seven apartments. Rustic but in great shape. The bedrooms in our unit were all spacious. The master bath was small but not too small. The other bathroom was very roomy.
Plenty of comfortable lounge chairs and swings on which to sit and enjoy the great views. You're welcome to move the chairs about wherever you like. Also a hammock, playground, ping-pong table and toddler-friendly outdoor toys.
The garden was very well tended and had more than enough zucchini and lettuce for us to pick and use. The tomatoes weren't quite ready to pick while we were there.
The property sits atop a hill and is surrounded by the proprietor's olive grove, vineyard, and wheat fields.
The living and bedroom furnishings were all appropriately sized and very comfortable. The living area included a wonderful large table at which we could host others for dinner if we wanted. There was also a large, comfortable sofa in the living area.
The kitchen was roomy and had all the pots, pans, and dishes we needed to cook a full meal. In fact, one evening our daughters and some of the other guests' daughters used our kitchen to prepare antipasti.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We booked directly with the owners. Isabella speaks English well. The lodging was everything we expected to be (and more!) based on the representations made on the web site.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We are already talking about how to save up to visit Cretaiole again. The lodging is wonderful, and the entire Moricciani family are wonderful hosts.
