Review 5057: Owner, La Selva Giardino del Belvedere

Review by Joyce from US

8bed/5bath house near Montevarchi, Tuscany Chianti

Our daughter's wedding, photo by

June 24 thru Jul 2 2011, one week

The villa is in a very private location, but within 10 minutes driving distance to the nearest town, Montevarchi, which has a train station.

The are was absolutely beautiful - countryside and one neighboring village within walking distance were immaculate, charming, and classic Tuscany.

Nearby Amenities

The closest amenities were within a five to ten minute drive to Montevarchi.

The House/Apartment

The villa had been abandoned for over 30 years and restored to its authentic state by the Cioncolini family. It is the only rental on the property and it was immaculate, with many charming features that made you feel you were truly staying in someone's home.

There were many private sitting areas. One patio became the setting of my daughter's wedding. It was truly beautiful and the perfect setting for an intimate event. The pool was glorious - clean and in a perfect area next to the villa where you could overlook the distant hills.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Furniture and living space was abundant- we had 14 people staying and there were areas of the villa we never got to use!

The baths and beds were very clean. Many of the rooms had private baths and a couple rooms had shared baths. Cleaning staff came in twice during our stay and refreshed everything for us.

There were two kitchens that were both fully outfitted with quality tools, pans, dishes. During the times when the chef, Maria, was in the villa cooking for us, we still had our own kitchen to make breakfast, lunch, etc. The size was enormous - Maria conducted a cooking class for us and there was plenty of room for all 14 of us to participate.

Problems or Bonuses

Our biggest surprise was how visible Francesco, the owner, was throughout our stay. He was there to ensure that everything went right, but was very careful not to intrude on our privacy. We thoroughly enjoyed he and his family's stories and company - again making us feel very much and home and not so much like tourists.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Francesco spoke perfect English.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

This was a beautiful place for my daughter's wedding. The grounds were perfect, with potted flowers all around the grounds. The setting was quiet and private, but a quick drive to the train when we want to travel. There were many hiking paths, one full of fireflies that was magical at night.

Things to do in this area

From the villa, we were able to easily drive to Montevarchi to take the train to Siena, Arezzo, Rome, and Florence. We were also conveniently close to the airport in Florence. Our favorite restaurant was right within the villa. The chef, Maria, made us the most fabulous food - all with natural ingredients, some right from the property! Our wedding dinner was unique and creative and we would not have found better in a five-star restaurant!

An experience of a lifetime - a visit we hope to repeat one day!!
