2bed/1bath apartment near Vatican, Rome

Location

At the top of a very steep hill at the side of the Vatican.

Nearby Amenities

Twenty-five minute walk to nearest amenities.

The House/Apartment

Please do not book with rome city apartments I cannot stress this enough. I stayed and so did a friend and a family member. They did not clean this apartment. We stayed at lemontree and informed them of the problems there:

  • dirt and filth not been cleaned for months
  • cobwebs everywhere
  • termites/bugs spotted under the mattress
  • dirty linen and a lack of it
  • dirty bathroom.

Landlord came and replaced the mattress thinking that it would help!! He said "You should stay here, I will not refund as they are termites and do not harm humans." We had to move out that night at 1am it was awful! I understand now why they do not take the deposit. It was very hard to talk to the staff at Rome City Apartments as they do not let you speak - the classic game of not letting you speak so they don't refund you.

Garden

Description said there was a terrace but there was only room for three of you to stand like sardines.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

As described - disgusting and filthy.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Two tiny rooms that only just fit the bed no room to hardly walk round it. If you did, the other person in the room would have to sit on the bed. Dirty, dusty wardrobes with duvets stuffed in the bottom. One bathroom full of bugs and ants everywhere. Shower constantly going hot and cold.

Kitchen

Not enough cookware, dirty oven and kitchen and utensils. Just disgusting. Like something out of a horror film.

Problems or Bonuses

Not surprised they didn't take the deposit. Please don't be blinded and think they're doing it out of the kindness of their hearts!! It's simply because they know if they showed you into the apartment you would demand a refund! Also, they cannot be bothered.

Surprised that the apartment was up a very steep hill and then another set of steep steps into the apartment - fails to tell you that.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Appallingly. We emailed our complaints - they ignored it. We then called to follow up they said they would get the landlord out - though they are the ones who should be keeping it clean. They refused to refund us because they thought we should have stayed - their reason being "these are termites under the mattress and they do not harm humans".

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Seriously - I think you know the answer. You go on holiday to get away from the stresses and this agency is absolutely appalling. They have no respect for you and do not listen to you - they shout over you. They did the same with my mum and her friend when they went.

My advice - don't do it!!

Things to do in this area

Around the Vatican there isn't much. I would advise you to stay near trastevere or along via nationalze - much more happening there on a night and beware - there are lots of cafes pretending to be restaurants and you do have to search for decent food. Do not buy food from the stands they're awful!!
