Review 51: Colle Lungo, Apartment

Review by Beverly from WA

apartments on estate near Castellina, Tuscany Chianti

1999, 1 week

I rented an apartment in 1999. I booked directly with the owners (they have a web site). The nearest town in Castellina in Chianti (a really charming town). The estate is located in the country (more like a farm) with panoramic views of the countryside. You need a car in this area, but it might be possible to walk into town.

There are several freestanding buildings on the estate, each containing one or two apartments. Most apartments are one bedroom, one in two bedrooms. Each apartment is self-contained: bathroom, kitchen, dining area, some have great views. Very important: there are screens on the windows! (Not that common in Italy.) On the estate, there is a TV room, laundry facilities and a swimming pool shared by all apartments. Delivery of morning breakfast rolls can be arranged with the owner. I donít know that Iíve ever seen such an immaculately clean place.

The furnishings were like new and very comfortable. The apartment was in excellent shape. There was an outside sitting area. The kitchen was excellent. The bed was comfortable. The hosts are amazingly accommodating Ė they provide an informational brochure of what to see and do in the area. They were really delightful. I liked the area and the apartment was peaceful and quiet.
