apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South When13th August - 20th August 2011, 1 week LocationLe Manzinaie is located near the town of Montepulciano Stazione (near Montepulciano) and is set off the main road surrounded by fields. The area is breathtakingly beautiful - sunflowers abound everywhere and the vine groves of several big vineyards are within easy reach. Nearby AmenitiesSupermarkets, a laundry, butchers and bakers are all nearby in the town of Montepulciano Stazione. It's walkable for sure, but in the searing heat I was happy to escape to our air-conditioned car for a five-minute drive. The House/ApartmentThe converted farmhouse and neighbouring villa are in great shape and have been lovingly restored by the family. In our apartment, Girasole, stencils and wall-paintings of sunflowers were everywhere (hence the name 'Girasole') and these paintings had been done by Marzia the farm owner. GardenThe gardens are simply wonderful - expansive and with a pool. We picked our own tomatoes and courgettes for our meals each day. The pool itself was a good size, well-maintained and beautifully cold for a refreshing dip. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment was very clean and a good size for a family of four. The main living area has a TV, kitchen area, table and chairs plus lots of space to relax. Bedrooms/BathroomsBoth bedrooms had a bathroom, and ours had a jacuzzi-bath which caused endless entertainment when I put some bubbles in by accident. Both bathrooms were clean and well-stocked with towels, soap etc. KitchenThe kitchen lacked an oven, and perhaps needed more room for food preparation, but had a hob, microwave and ample pots, pans and knives. Cooking was a joy and we'd regularly prepare something for the family then eat outside in the sunshine. Problems or BonusesWe were invited to a meal by the family and this was a real highlight. The family who own Le Manzinaie are a joy and go out of their way to help with your needs. Agency and Representatives (and price)We booked through the farmhouse' website. Alice speaks very good English and all the information we were given was accurate. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would stay here again in a shot. Thanks to Le Manzinaie we had our best-ever family holiday. I couldn't recommend it enough. Things to do in this areaGuastini restaurant nearby was very good, and there a lots of things to do in the area - visiting vineyards, Montepulciano, Siena, Cortona etc. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
