September 2011, 10 days

Podere Le Manzinaie is conveniently located near key Tuscan villages including Montepulciano-Satzione, Pienza, Montalcino and Montepulciano. It is centrally located near an excellent road that connects to other routes leading to Tuscan villages and cities. The compound is very private, well maintained. It is truly a home away from home. The local people are warm, helpful and very tolerant and understanding of folks who do not speak Italian!

Nearby Amenities

Excellent restaurants and groceries are just minutes away by car. Try lunch and a tour at one of the local vineyards. Montepulciano-Satzione is the closest town, a two minute drive. Stop at the gelato store. Some of the best gelato I had in Tuscany!

The House/Apartment

Le Manzinarie is stunning. The owners, Fiore, Marzia and their daughter Alice have dedicated their lives to making their beautiful Podere warm, relaxing and comfortable. The suites and two villas are impeccably kept, Marzia's eye for interior design is top shelf, Fiore's landscaping and horticulture. They work hard each and every day to make sure their guest are happy.

Le Manzinarie has a beautiful swimming pool, several gazebos, a vegetable garden and an orchard. Guests are encouraged to help themselves to Fiore's apples, plums, tomatoes, figs, etc., etc.! I picked fruit and vegetables everyday. The grounds are stunning. One minor note. I'm a bird watcher and the variety of bird-life in and around the compound was amazing. I added at least 12 species to my life list! If you're a birder bring your binoculars!

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The suite and villa were extremely comfortable and spotless. Truly a home away from home.

I wish I could have placed the bed in my suitcase. I'm a non sleeper but the beds in the suite and villa cured my insomnia! The bathroom was very large with wonderful amenities. It had a jacuzzi and a separate invigorating shower.

Each unit has a fully supplied kitchen with enough chairs. Picking Fiore's vegetables and cooking them in the kitchen was a real treat.

Problems or Bonuses

The overall experience at Podere Le Manzinaie was expectational. It far exceeded our highest expectations. We are already planning a return visit. However next time we are bringing friends! One additional bonus was meeting wonderful people from around the world who were also staying at Le Manzinaie. Fiore, Marzia and Alice's hospitality soon made total strangers into friends.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Booked directly with the facility. Very easy to do online. Also, Alice's command of English, French, Spanish and of course Italian was amazing. She's a very gifted and wonderful young woman. Her assistance in planing our itinerary to the local sights was greatly appreciated by us.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

As previously stated we're already planning a return visit, hopefully with friends. Le Manzinaie is a gem and we hope to share our second visit with close friends. But if they cannot make the trip we're going back without them!

Things to do in this area

Vineyard tour at Avignonesi. Buy the combo tour and lunch. The lunch looks pricey but it is exceptional and paired with the vineyards wonderful wine. After a wonderful tour of the vineyard, we sat for lunch at the vineyards beautifully appointed dinning terrace. Looking at the beautiful scenery while enjoying good food and wine will always be remembered as a highlight of the trip.

Marzia will book the tour for you.

Ristorante Zaira, Chiusi. Try their Bresaola Cinghiale. Also make sure to ask to see the incredible wine cellar.

Ristorante Ronato Montepulciano-Stazione. Nice local place to have good simple food at a very reasonable price. Good pizza too. The outdoor dinning area is a treat to eat in on Saturday and Sunday when many of the local Italian families come to have dinner.
