4bed/4.5bath house near Castiglione del lago, Umbria WhenSeptember, 2011, 2 weeks LocationThe house is located in the country, surrounded by farmland with distant mountain views. Several small towns are within a five minute drive and Castiglione, overlooking lago Trasimeno is about 15 minutes away. Nearby AmenitiesWe shopped for groceries in Castiglione, about 15 minutes away with two supermarkets and many restaurants to choose from. The House/ApartmentThe house is a complete ground-up rebuild of a ruin. The house was great as the systems etc. are new while retaining the look and feel of a much older house. The House has a ground floor en suite double and three upstairs bedrooms, all with private baths. There is a balcony upstairs off one of the bedrooms where you can view the sunset. The house is in farm country ... there is also an ostrich farm that can be seen from the property. GardenThe garden is in back of the house, with a nice lawn leading to the pool. There is a large covered veranda where you can escape the sun and dine al fresco. there are plenty of chaises by the pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThis is a very comfortable house with unusually large rooms. The house was clean and there are several seating areas both in and out where you can dine. Bedrooms/BathroomsBedrooms and baths were fine. Not having to wait to use a bathroom is great with a large group. KitchenThe kitchen/dining area is one large room, about 30'x15' Very serviceable in all regards. There was no toaster. There is one now. Problems or BonusesThis house is on level ground and with the ground floor suite; it is a good choice for someone with mobility issues. Agency and Representatives (and price)We have used Gorgacce many times in the past. They are very responsive, accept credit cards and have great houses at rates that I believe are below most others. We also met the house owner who is Irish and very nice. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I generally don't like to stay in the same place twice as I believe that the great memories of a particular vacation are never as good as the first time at a particular spot. This is a fine, spacious house where you have everything at your disposal for a terrific country stay. No one in our group of seven had a single criticism of the property. Things to do in this areaThis is a convenient area to explore western Umbria. The house is about 20 miles south of Cortona, close to Montepulciano, Pienza and several other historic hill towns. We spent a day going out to an island in lake Trasimeno, having a great lunch lakeside. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
