Location

The San Marco apartment is in a historic building with many other apartments all managed by Windows on Italy. It is on Via della Vigna Vecchia, right around the corner from Bar Vivoli, between Piazza Santa Croce and the Bargello. It is in the heart of the old city center of Florence. The representation of the apartment on the web site is accurate.

Nearby Amenities

There are several grocery stores reasonably close by (two Metas, a Standa) as well as many restaurants and cafes.

The House/Apartment

The building is historical and the apartment was in reasonably good shape. It is on the fourth (Italian) floor with elevator. The bed and one bath are in a loft area with a large walk through closet to get to the bath. The upstairs bath has a tub but no wall mount for the hand held shower unit. The downstairs bath has a small shower. It is fairly quiet (we have stayed here three times). The main reasons for the neutral rating are:

  • The shower is quite small. It's a shame the upstairs bath is just a tub with a hand held unit.
  • The air conditioning (A/C) unit is mounted on the ceiling and drips water on the floor (two floors down) if run all night - only a problem if you are there when you need the A/C.
  • The bed is a bit too firm (for us).

Garden

There is a small shared outdoor seating area on the floor that the San Marco, Verdi and Santa Croce apartments are located on. It has a table with four chairs.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was clean. There is a sofabed and loveseat which are comfortable in the living area with wireless Internet and sat TV with English language channels.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bed was firm, not overly comfortable for us due to this but there were four good pillows which were a plus. The bathrooms were good but only one had a shower and the shower was small. We showered in the first floor bath and used the upstairs bath for everything else - the sink upstairs is decent sized and there a good amount of shelving for toiletries. Small bar soaps, shampoo and body wash are provided in both baths. Hair dryers are provided in each bath.

Kitchen

There is a good kitchen with good sized fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and cookware. Water, pasta and sauce for one meal plus instant coffee and sugar are provided. The table is in the living area with four chairs. Laundry detergent for two loads is provided as well as dishwasher tabs for two loads. There's unfortunately no regular dish soap provided for hand washing dishes.

Problems or Bonuses

We love the location of these apartments. We will stay in the San Marco again if other apartments we like better are not available. For this trip we booked only six weeks prior to our trip so selection was limited. This was our third stay despite the neutral rating.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We have stayed in various Windows on Italy apartments many times. They are a very good agency and everyone we have dealt with has spoken perfect English. We paid €1408 for eight nights. Rates per night vary based on the total number of nights you stay. We have always found the information on their apartments accurate. They have been very accommodating on check in/out times.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would stay here again but certainly not as a first choice. The firmness of the bed may not be a problem for everyone and the size of the shower may not bother others as much. The A/C dripping can be annoying at night - we don't recall if this is a new issue or not. The location is great and everything else about the apartment is good.
