2bed/2bath apartment in Castello (bordering San Marco and Cannaregio), Venice When10/16-19/2011, 3 days LocationThe Pitter Balcony apartment is located at Campo SS. Giovanni e Paolo in the Cannaregio district of Venice along a canal and a short walk to the Fondamenta Nuove vaporetto/Alilunga stop. Like most of Venice, everything was in walking distance or vaporetto ride. The area is quiet and away from the rampant tourists. Nearby AmenitiesGroceries were available from a co-op a seven-minute walk away along the Fondamenta Nuove while dining and coffee opportunities were on the Campo or a short walk away. The House/ApartmentLike all buildings in Venice, this one is historical. However, it has been totally updated and includes two bedrooms, two baths (but only one shower), a combined eating/dining area, small kitchen and balcony overlooking the canal and campo. The apartment is on the second floor with a private entrance off a small square. There are no other apartments and the area is extremely quiet at night. GardenThe balcony has a pleasant seating area for three persons. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasAll of the furnishings were updated, comfortable and more than adequate for our party of five. The apartment was extremely clean and well-maintained. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable and shades kept out the light from the street lamps. There was some noise in the morning as people went to work and the canal became active but that only made it more charming. The bathrooms were clean, updated and well-lit but there is only one shower. KitchenThe kitchen was well-equipped and could be used for cooking full meals although we only used it for snacks and breakfast. Problems or BonusesThe owner, Nicoletta, is extremely gracious and helpful. She is proud of her flat and maintains it well. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was quick to respond to all our questions. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would absolutely recommend this apartment for its location, its charm, its cleanliness, and its large space. It worked quite well for two couples and one child. Things to do in this areaWe would highly recommend the Trattoria San Zulian in San Marco (Campo della Guerra), a short walk from the square on the way to the apartment. The food and service were excellent. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
