Think very, very carefully before using Rome Sweet Home. Our experience with them was dreadful.

Good points: this apartment is on a lively street in Trastevere, but was relatively quiet as it faced away from the street.

Bad points: where to start?

Our first mistake was to believe the description online.

  • We believed that the apartment would be "bright" - it was actually very dark.
  • We believed that the kitchen would be "fully equipped" - the few pieces of crockery were chipped and cracked, there was just one wineglass and no corkscrew.
  • We believed there was a "nice terrace" - there was certainly a terrace: overlooked, dirty and holding a battered and rusty washing machine.

Our next mistake was to believe that the instruction on our booking confirmation to contact the company if there were any problems was genuine. On our first night it rained, and several litres of water cascaded into the main bedroom through a closed window! We rang the key holder who promised to pass on our request for help. Nothing more happened.

I then sent an email listing the complaints we were amassing about the poor standard of service the company was offering. Nothing more happened. On arriving home I sent another email, listing our complaints again. Nothing more happened.

Finally, I rang the company. Bad idea! I was treated with contempt and amongst other things told I should have gone out and brought a corkscrew for myself. My request to be taken seriously was laughed at and when I demanded to be treated with a little more respect the phone was put down on me.

This company is only interested in your money. Once they have that, any pretence at service stops abruptly. Look at some of their other reviews. Rome Sweet Home is a disgrace to Italy. There are plenty of thoughtful and reliable companies to choose from in Italy - use one of them!
