Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)

1bed/1bath apartment in Cannaregio, Venice
October 2011, 7 nights
This apartment was in the Cannaregio area of Venice. It was not directly on a canal but approximately 10 steps down a side calle. It was a very quiet area with very few tourists. It was attached to other buildings.
Obviously we did not drive since it was Venice. The apartment was very close to a grocery store, two excellent restaurants were less than one minute away - the Jewish Ghetto was two minutes away and coffee and bakeries were close also.
The apartment had been recently renovated and was in excellent shape. It was peaceful and quiet, with very little foot traffic along the calle. It was a single apartment that was entered by stepping up one step and the rest was on one level. The kitchen and living room were one large room when you entered the apartment. The bedroom, bathroom and laundry room were down a short hall. The kitchen and bathroom were very modern and in excellent shape.
There was a very small outside area off the bathroom. It was too small to be utilized as a sitting area.
The furniture was in good shape and was comfortable. The dining room consisted only of a bar area with 3-4 bar stools. The living room had a couch, chair and bean bag chair (that I used for a foot stool).
The bed was comfortable and my daughter who slept on the sofa bed did not complain about it being uncomfortable. As stated earlier, the bathroom was very nice, fully tiled, with a larger than normal shower. This was the only bathroom I have ever seen with a rectangle toilet (including seat) and bidet. There was a large closet with drawers that was quit adequate space for my daughter and myself.
The kitchen was quite usable but I did not cook other than coffee. The dishes were of average quality. There appeared to be enough pots and pans for simple meals but it definitely wasn't a kitchen in which I would want to cook large meals.
Problems or Bonuses
The only surprise was the apartment was better than the pictures appeared on the website.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
I booked with the owner, Daniela, and she was very responsive to all emails. Her writing in English was excellent but I did not speak with her on the phone. She had a friend meet us at the vaporetto stop and walk us to the apartment. The friend spoke excellent English.
The reality of the apartment was slightly better than the published information.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would stay here again and would recommend my best friend stay here. My only qualification would be the distance to the vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal. It was a 10-15 minute walk at a good pace. I also was very aware of how many bridges my knees had to climb.... However, the Madonna del'Orto stop was about five minutes away if you wanted to access the lagoon. And it was the first stop on the Alilaguna from the airport, which was great.
Things to do in this area
We loved walking around "our" neighborhood. Anice Stellato was literally a 20-30 second walk from the apartment. There were a number of lovely restaurants in the Cannaregio area. We also spent lots of time just walking and riding the vaporetto around Venice.
