Review 5233: Venice Rentals, Campo Gatte Canal View Apt
2bed/1.5bath apartment in Castello, Venice
Dec 2011, 5 nights
The apartment is on the second (US) floor (first floor in Italy) in a four-story building located in a small square near the Arsenale vaporetto stop. It's about a seven minute walk to St. Mark's Square. The neighborhood is outside of the main tourist area (which we wanted), and was very quiet, but it's a very short walk to the Grand Canal.
The apartment was a few blocks from both a drugstore and a supermarket (there are not a lot of them in Venice). There were a cafe, restaurant and bakery on Calle San Antonin, about two minutes from the apartment, and obviously many others if you go a little further.
The building was old, but in great condition. I think there were six units in the building. We loved the apartment - it was very spacious, very clean and looked like it had been renovated recently. There was a large kitchen, separate dining room with seating for six, separate living room, and two large bedrooms. Our family of four found it very comfortable. While there was some occasional street noise, I imagine that most apartments in Venice would have the same.
There was a lovely balcony with seating for two (but was too cold in December to spend time on).
The apartment was very tastefully furnished, and immaculately clean. More than enough chairs.
Beds were extremely comfortable, and the bedrooms were quite roomy. There was a full bathroom, and another half bath. The configuration was a little strange as you had to walk through the half bath to get to the full bath, but both were immaculate.
We didn't use the kitchen for cooking full meals, but it looked like everything was of high quality.
Problems or Bonuses
Everything in the apartment was very high quality, and made for a very comfortable relaxing stay.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Was very pleased with Venice Rentals and would use them again. Both the owners speak English, and were responsive when we had questions. Because the babysitters they normally send out were on vacation, Denise sat for our kids one night (€18/hour) -- and made cookies with them!
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Yes, would definitely recommend this apartment!
Things to do in this area
I found a lovely ceramic shop called Questoequeo in Calle San Antonin, that had beautiful and unique dishes and other things. I didn't see anything like the owner's work anywhere else in Venice.
