2bed/2bath apartment in Praiano, Campania

Casa Matilde in Praiano (Amalfi Coast, Italy), photo by trekcapri

November 12, 2011 - December 2, 2011, 3 weeks

Casa Matilde is located in the small town of Praiano on the Amalfi Coast. It is a town that is within short distance bus ride to Positano (in one direction) and the town of Amalfi in the other direction. In Amalfi you can take the bus to other towns on the Amalfi Coast like Ravello.

The apartment has other apartments next to it and across the stairs but it is very quiet and private. I loved the area because of it is so peaceful and quiet and for its convenience and stunning views of the ocean, Positano and the island of Capri. You are within steps of the Sita Bus stop, several restaurants/cafes, a nice family owned grocery store, the tourist office (where there is an ATM machine) and the post office.

Nearby Amenities

There is a nearby grocery/drug store located only a five to eight minute walk down from the apartment. There is also a fresh fish vendor just down the stairs from the apartment and a selection of other stores/cafes/restaurants all within a 5-10 minute walk.

The House/Apartment

The apartment is attached to other units (below and above), but it is very quiet especially at night. The apartment is exceptionally clean, fully equipped and the furniture is in great shape. The decor is very tasteful and goes well with the furniture. The apartment has a beautiful living room area with a formal dining table. The highlight is these big windows which has the most magnificent view of the ocean. In the distance you can see the town of Positano and in the far distance you have a stunning view of the Faraglioni Rocks of the coast of Capri. Each room (two bedrooms and living room) you have a terrace that overlooks the ocean. I witnessed a beautiful and colorful sunset most of the nights of my stay. There are two bathrooms (one with a full bath and the other with a shower) which was very clean and a very well equipped kitchen with a breakfast table and chairs. There is a washing machine located outside of the second bedroom with a clothes line just off the terrace to hang your clothes to dry.

There are stairs you have to climb to get to the apartment but you will get used to it and for me this beautiful apartment is worth the effort. Mrs. Agata the apartment owner helped me to bring my luggage up the stairs and Mrs. Agata and Antonio both helped me bring my luggage down after my stay. They are the nicest owners that I've had to work with in all my travels.

Yes, there is a good size private balcony with four chairs and a table outside of the living room. Here you have a stunning view of the ocean, the town of Positano and the mountains above the town of Praiano.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment has a beautiful and tasteful decor and I found that all of the furniture is in great condition. The beds are very comfortable and in the closest they have extra comforters and blankets for the guests to use. The apartment is bright and cheery with big windows but they have shutters to close for those who like to sleep with it dark. The tile floors are a baby blue color and really add to the beauty of the apartment. There are definitely enough chairs in the living room and dining room if a family were to stay here. The living room has a nice comfortable couch with a wicker table with two wicker chairs by the window over looking the ocean and the formal dining table has four chairs with two extra chairs on the side of the couch. In the kitchen there is a breakfast table with four chairs. And in both rooms there is a very nice and comfortable sitting chair.

The main bedroom has a queen size bed and I found it very comfortable. The bedding was very clean and also very comfortable. In the second bedroom there are two twin beds and they are also very comfortable.

There are two bathrooms (one with a full bathtub and the other with a shower). The main bathroom was especially roomy with a nice vanity area. Mrs. Agata also came to change the linens once and told me if I needed them changed again to let them know. I especially appreciated the good supply of towels they provided.

The kitchen was very well equipped with cooking pots and pans, utensils and dishes and cups. I cooked a few meals during my stay and found everything available that I needed. The kitchen is very clean and in very good shape.

Problems or Bonuses

There is a nice TV in the living room but I did not use it since I had my laptop to watch movies/shows on iTunes. There is a beautiful wood book case in the living room with reading books and guide books for guests to use.

The owners, Mrs. Agata and Antonio, are so nice and accommodating. They made sure I had their cell phone number and told me to call them if ever I needed anything during my stay. They made me feel very comfortable and welcomed.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The contact person, Luca and Valerie, for Summer In Italy are really nice and they were very easy to work with. They were extremely responsive to all of my e-mail inquiries and once I booked my apartment they sent me this very comprehensive PDF document with clear instructions on what I needed to do upon arrival, during my stay and upon my departure. They provided me with some helpful tips.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes, without hesitation if I were ever to return to the Amalfi Coast in the future I would not want to stay anywhere else but Casa Matilde. I would recommend this apartment and this agency to all of my friends or to any traveler wishing to have a wonderful stay on the Amalfi Coast.

Things to do in this area

The apartment is within close walking distance to the Sita Bus Stops which takes you to Positano in one direction and the town of Amalfi in the other direction. There are great hiking opportunities including the very famous Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods) above the town. The location of the apartment is very convenient and you can walk to just about anywhere in town. My favorite places: Bar del Sole (for drinks and snacks), Chez Black (in Positano) and Vivaro Wine Bar (just a two minute walk from the apartment).
