Review 5254: Destination Lucca, Apartment Arancio

Review by Timoteo from NH

1bed/1.5bath apartment in Lucca, Tuscany North

Second week in March 2011, 4 nights

Apartment Arancio is located twenty meters down a side street off of Via Filungo, the main pedestrian shopping street in Lucca's center inside the walls. Out the window or from the terrace of its second floor (American style) position a courtyard surrounded by various apartments above and a few shops below provides plenty to look at -- including one of Lucca's two climbable towers - La Torre delle Ore. This is prime real estate for a stay in Lucca. You are near everything. The area was wonderful, footsteps on cobblestones, street-sweeper in the morning, birds, muted voices from Via Filungo.

Nearby Amenities

Everything is within walking distance. If you prefer a large grocery store you can walk outside the walls to the Esselunga supermarket just to the north.

The House/Apartment

Historical building (stairs no elevator but not many steps). There were a few other apartments and it was quite peaceful. Occasionally we would hear footsteps going up the stairs or from the apartment above, but nothing annoying.

The private and large terrace was a great feature. Although at the time it was a bit chilly we still couldn't resist spending some time each day out there to soak in Lucca's atmosphere.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was beautifully furnished with rich colors and lots of wood and tile. It was spotless and very sizable. Definitely ample size for four or five.

The main bed was comfortable and very beautiful with a little office space next door which also led out onto the balcony. Two bathrooms, one full and one half, no problems with either. There are also washing and drying machines.

We didn't cook too much but everything seemed to be provided.

Problems or Bonuses

Very, very beautiful apartment and spot. We got a good deal being in early March.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Andrew and Bernadette met us at the nearest parking lot and walked us in (just a five-ten minute walk). They were very helpful in explaining the apartment, providing suggestions for what to do and where, and remaining available whenever we had questions. Interesting, professional and very personable, Andrew and Bernadette couldn't have been better to work with.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would stay there again and in fact recommended to my mother-in-law and her husband who stayed here in November 2011.
