2bed/1bath house near Cortona, Tuscany East WhenSeptember 2011, 9 days LocationThe villa is in the countryside. About 2kms to the nearest shop, bar, restaurant. Very peaceful location away from it all. The area is full of wonderful views and walks - great for our children and Doris, our lab. Nearby AmenitiesNo, you need to take a car - or go on the bike (but the bike ride down hill is very easy - coming back is very difficult ) The bar is 2 kms. The House/ApartmentThe villa is in good shape with two bedrooms, Incredibly peaceful and restful. The only noise - birds! The villa is private and set in its own land. The property is a small private house with two bedrooms in many hectare of olives and countryside. This was a fabulous location for us, ideal for the family of four of us. Fantastic views and very peaceful. In fact our only regret was that it was so nice that we never really explored much of the surrounding area except for Cortona, Arezzo and the wine tour arranged by the owner in Montepulciano. To sit outside in late September was a real treat and the pool was still comfortable to swim. and play. GardenOutside there are olive groves and an orchard. Rolling hills and lots of trees. The garden has lawn area, shrubs and pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe beds were antique, but with modern mattresses and antique closets. The sitting room had standard comfortable sofa and chairs. The kitchen had a dining table - although we ate outside on the terrace. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds were comfortable and clean. The bathroom, small but more than adequate with shower. The shower was quite good. KitchenThe kitchen had a stove, oven, fridge, but no dishwasher. You should be able to prepare any type of meal I would guess - we used the barbecue mostly. There were other appliances, a toaster and coffee maker. There was a small supply of herbs, sugar etc. plus paper towels etc. Problems or BonusesThe general setting was marvelous - more than we had anticipated and better than photos we saw. The first day, arriving, we thought the road long, but that was probably anticipation of getting there. Agency and Representatives (and price)The owner is Italian, but uses a local friend as agent who speaks English Very useful to liaise with and to make our reservations for vineyards and elsewhere. This was all dealt with by email and after he showed us around, we had a phone number but didn't need to use it. He called mid-week to check if we were all okay - which was thoughtful. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We enjoyed it very much. We will go back, but next year (unless we find more time!) This is a good place for families and friends. Very quiet, private and a way of escaping into Tuscan life. The only little problem we had was with some ants outside on the terrace, but these were dealt with by some powder. Not really an issue. Things to do in this areaThe restaurant (valley restaurant) was pleasant - serving all local produce and fresh pasta. Further away - about 20 minutes - was our favorite Antrica Pieve near Castiglion Fiorenitno. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
