2bed/1bath apartment in San Marco-Castello, Venice WhenApril 2012, 4 nights LocationA pleasant 5-10 minute walk to Piazza San Marco, near the Grecian Church on the San Marco-Castello boundary line. Nearby AmenitiesWe we just a few yards from everything we needed except that the larger grocery store was a five minute walk. There was a great restaurant, Trattoria da Remigio, less than 50 yards away, and numerous others nearby. The House/ApartmentOlder building in excellent shape. Walked up approximately 50 stairs to our penthouse apartment, which was two stories. It was very peaceful and quiet, with a nice view from the top floor. Very open and airy and white. There were perhaps four or five other apartments although we only saw our next door neighbor, who was also renting from our owner. GardenNo garden or sitting area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything was in excellent shape and comfortable. It was extremely clean. Plenty of seating. New washing machine which worked very well, and an outside clothesline. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bedroom on the main floor had a door but the bedroom in the loft did not. It was still fine. The bathroom was large and spotless but only had a large bathtub which took a little getting used to! Plenty of hot water. KitchenWe didn't do any cooking but there appeared to be service for four and there were plenty of utensils. We did make coffee every morning, in an Italian pot, and ran downstairs for pastries from the wonderful bakery directly across from the building. Problems or BonusesThe WiFi sometimes didn't work in the afternoon or evening but was strong in the morning. I was surprised at what a lovely place it was - even nicer than the photos! Agency and Representatives (and price)I booked with the owner through VRBO and he was very nice. I paid a €150 deposit, which was returned to my account a few days after I left the apartment. The onsite person met us in a designated spot and was very nice. She spoke English. We paid €180 per night because it was spring break time; the property is less expensive at off-peak times. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would absolutely stay here again but again, I must admit not having a shower took a little getting used to! Things to do in this areaWe loved Trattoria da Remigio just down the street and Al Covo about five minutes away. We also enjoyed walking 10 minutes to Via Garibaldi in Castello and paying half the typical Venice prices at bars! This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
