Review 5324: Ca' Momplin, Ca' Momplin I

Review by EGollay from OR

1bed/1bath apartment near Canale d'Alba, Piemonte

June 2012, 12 days

We loved our stay at Ca'Momplin. We loved the location. It's quiet but convenient. Only a few minutes drive from Canale, which is a lovely town with terrific markets and several excellent restaurants. In the other direction was Garibaldi, our favorite restaurant. You must have a car.

We wanted to be close to Bra to visit a friend working for Slow Food. It's less than 20 km away ... about a 30 minute drive if you are (like us) slow; less if you are accustomed to the roads. Bra and Alba are wonderful places to visit and very close.

Nearby Amenities

No walking. It's a rural location. But Canale is just about a five minute drive down the hill and everything you would want is there. Claudia and Franco also make available some wonderful local supplies that you can buy for a very reasonable price: pasta, sauce, olive oil, honey, wine, salami, etc. All the basic of a good life!

The House/Apartment

First, the house itself is lovely and very well set up. The living room and kitchen are on the ground flood, the bedroom and bath upstairs. Everything was provided! Not particularly historic but definitely in very good shape. High ceilings and very pleasant. We were right next door to Claudia and Franco, our hosts, who we loved!

There were two other apartments in the complex.

There were a few outdoor spaces. We had a reasonably private one in the back, another in the front that was just for us but was relatively public, and then a shared shaded area that was lovely. No pool that we were aware of.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything was clean, comfortable and user-friendly. No complaints at all!

One bedroom, one bath ... plenty for the two of us. The bed was large and comfortable.

The kitchen had just about everything you could want including a dishwasher and a washing machine.

Problems or Bonuses

We were pleasantly surprised by Canale. It's really a lovely town. Authentically Piedmont. Virtually no tourists so it really felt like "living" in Italy. As I said, the restaurant Garibaldi, up the road, was amazing.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We only dealt directly with Claudia. She was very easy to deal with. We had to cancel our reservation for medical reasons a year earlier and she was very flexible about it ... much more so than most of the other people with whom we had reserved. Businesslike, but also kind. Ideal, really.

We even got a cooking lesson from Franco: gnocchi! They are helpful and delightful hosts.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would love to stay there again and would definitely highly recommend it to others.

Things to do in this area

Garibaldi is a wonderful restaurant. Too many things to mention: It's Piedmont. The food and wine are amazing. Turin is close and definitely worth a visit especially for the Egyptian collection. The list of nice places is too long to mention.
