apartments on an estate outside Montepulciano, Tuscany South

Family Dinner at La Bruciata, photo by Laura

When

July 2010, 2 weeks

Location

La Bruciata is located just outside Montepulciano overlooking the glorious Tuscan countryside. The accommodations consist of two one-bedroom, 1 two-bedroom and a three-bedroom unit located right on the farm. The location is on top of a hill so the views of the surrounding countryside are stunning. We have stayed at other agriturismi in the area but this was our favourite of all.

Nearby Amenities

You need to drive into Montepulciano for groceries. However each unit is fitted with a complete kitchen, which includes a gas stove and all the dishes, cutlery to cook meals.

The House/Apartment

The units are only a few years old but look like they have been around for a long time. There are four apartments in the block made up as laid out above. You are in the middle of the Tuscan countryside, close to the town. The peace and quiet is wonderful, though for us city dwellers, it took a couple of days to acclimate!

Garden

The gardens and sitting areas are very well taken care of. There is a sitting area for each unit which is like a pergola with climbing vines and a table and chairs for dining. The pool is one of the best I have ever seen and used on any vacation. Spotlessly clean and maintained every single day. Great loungers and umbrellas by the pool for those who enjoy the sun and the shade. Every unit was booked while we were there, yet there was lots of space around the pool and off to the side to accommodate the loungers.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The units are kept spotlessly clean and the fridge, stove, sink etc were all sparkling when we arrived. The furniture consisted of a sofa, dining table and chairs. There was also a fireplace in each unit which would add a definite ambiance in the cooler periods.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bedrooms had lots of storage in the form of drawers and wardrobe space. The beds all had antique wrought iron frames and luxurious linens. The bathroom in every unit has a wonderful steam shower system that is very invigorating. Towels are supplied. Everything worked extremely well.

Kitchen

Fridge, stove, sink in the kitchen. Lots of dishes and cutlery. Everything matched properly. As we were celebrating a family reunion at La Bruciata, the facilities got lots of use. We had lunch and made some dinners, eating al fresco.

Problems or Bonuses

The owners provide a wonderful complimentary breakfast every morning. This consists of produce from the farm, home baked breads and home made preserves, yoghurts, fresh fruit, juices and bottled water. The best coffee comes out of the kitchen at La Bruciata! Many mornings we lingered behind at the breakfast table talking and laughing but there was no pressure from with Laura or Marisa to leave so they could tidy up and get on with the rest of their day. In fact, they would offer more coffee etc - I think they enjoyed having a group of sometimes loud Irish staying with them! Part way through our stay, Laura and Marisa showed up with plates of wonderful hors d'oevres for us to enjoy with a lovely fruit punch.

In addition, the owners offer a free welcome dinner to all guests - since we were there for two weeks, we had two of them. These were multi-course Italian meals that showcased the wonderful products growing on their farm and they certainly won't be forgotten. Laura and Mamma will also cook dinner for you for a very reasonable cost as long as you give them a few hours notice. The night before we left to go back to our various homes in Ireland and Canada we had the most wonderful dinner prepared. While it was a bittersweet evening, we reflected on the wonderful time we'd had at La Bruciata and enjoyed the outstanding dishes prepared by Laura and Marisa.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Laura was always available to answer any questions or provide information on sight seeing in the vicinity. She provided us with a map of the area and highlighted areas of scenic beauty and also gave us information on the many spas in the area.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would stay here again in a heart beat. In a crazy world where everyone works so hard and life is stressful at the best of times, La Bruciata is an oasis for anyone who is looking for a chance to relax, recharge their batteries and literally smell the roses (there are dozens of them in the gardens around the property). I would not hesitate to recommend this rental to my best friend!

Things to do in this area

We ate frequently in Montepulciano in the evenings. There are so many recommendations from other reviewers on where to eat in the town that I'd be repeating them, however we loved Trattoria Diva & Maceo. On our various trips to Montepulciano we always make the time to eat here. The food is consistently good (the fact that so many locals also eat here is also a good sign) and the portions are hearty to say the least.
