1bed/1bath apartment in Dorsoduro, Venice WhenJune 2012, 3 weeks LocationWe love to walk so the location was perfect for us. If you want to be in San Marco with all the hustle and bustle it's not for you. If you want a relatively quiet but still lively scene it's perfect. People watching out the windows was a big plus. It really is close to Piazzale Roma but you don't hear car traffic at all. Nearby AmenitiesCoffee? Just downstairs is about the friendliest bar in Venice and there are three or four others within a three minute walk. Groceries? The "big" COOP is an easy walk; Campo Santa Marguerita has a nice two-story Punto store as well as the fruit and veggie vendors. The House/ApartmentThe building is in very good shape as is the apartment which is on the top/third floor. The door to the stairs has a lock so you feel very private. There is one other apartment which shares the third floor and there are a few others downstairs. GardenNo outside sitting area. Just Venice. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything is very clean and comfortable except for the dining room chairs which are lumpy and weird. The couch turns into a bed but we never opened it. Bedrooms/BathroomsBedroom is smallish but has good closet space. Bathroom is great; it includes the clothes washing machine which is fast by Italian standards. Shower is large (also by Italian standards) and hot water is plentiful. KitchenThe kitchen is one of the strong points. I cooked quite a bit in it and found everything I needed, for the most part. I did bring my own sharp chef's knife as always. The refrigerator is full size and makes great ice cubes in the freezer. There is a good dishwasher and a really nice view from the kitchen window. Problems or BonusesIn general, I was surprised at how wonderful this place was. We loved the location and the modern way the apartment is equipped. The A/C works very well as does the WiFi. There is cable TV but not much in English. The best thing is standing at the windows watching the people and the light on the water below. Agency and Representatives (and price)Sebastiano, who used to live in the apartment, is a really nice guy! He speaks perfect English. We paid €2,000 for three weeks. All the info on the web site is accurate except they've rearranged the living room furniture a little bit and added a TV. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? Not only would I stay there again, I seriously hope we do! Really, this is the nicest apartment we have stayed in in Italy. The only qualification is if you don't plan to walk a lot, the location may be a challenge. Also, for a first trip to Venice, where you want to be in San Marco a lot, it may be less than perfect.
