Review 5382: Le Manzinaie, Apartment

Review by mntravelbug94 from US

apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South

June 2012, 5 days

We returned from our trip to Italy at the end of June which included a five night stay at this beautiful retreat. Podere Le Manzinaie exceeded our expectations in terms of beauty, comfort, hospitality, and perfect location. Close and centrally located to so many wonderful hill towns, every day we found we could enjoy each town to the fullest while still having most of the afternoon to relax by the pool and enjoy the peaceful countryside. Montepulciano was only 15 minutes away, and Chiusi was a short 20 minute drive as we caught a train to Florence for the day.

Nearby Amenities

Le Manzinaie is in a private setting in the country surrounded by fields. However, it is a very short drive (10 minutes) to the food Coop for groceries in nearby Acquaviva. For coffee and restaurants, we enjoyed the famous hill town of Montepulciano, (15 minutes away) as well as Valiano (10 minutes). Surprisingly, our favorite place to hang out happened to be in the charming town of Chiusi (20 minutes).

The House/Apartment

The main farmhouse/farmstead is very historical (built in 1878) and beautifully restored by the owners themselves. The villa in which we stayed was originally an out-building on the farm converted into a charming, beautiful villa with every comfort and amenity needed. It includes a full kitchen (with cookware, etc.) and eating area connected to a common living area. The bedrooms are large and spacious as well as the bathrooms. The first bedroom is off the main floor with its own large, full bathroom, and the "master" suite is on the second floor with another large bathroom and lots of space. The entire villa is clean, very comfortable, quiet, and beautifully decorated.

The grounds were amazing. The design of the landscape (beautifully maintained hedges, trees) provided complete privacy for our villa with our very own large, shaded, outdoor dinning/gathering space. The grounds were designed with nooks and crannies for both private spaces as well as common spaces with other guests, including the large, beautiful pool area. Even in the common areas, you could find private spaces to sit, read, and relax.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was in excellent shape, clean and comfortable. Our family of four fit nicely in the villa.

The beds and bedrooms were large, spacious and comfortable. The linens were clean and fresh as well. Each bedroom had its own bathroom, which was great. The bathrooms were very clean and well maintained. The owners provide fresh towels upon request.

The kitchen was perfect with enough pots/pans/dishes to make a lovely meal. We cooked a lot (only one meal out per day), so it was key to have what we needed to make it work. The kitchen had plenty of room while cooking for a family of four.

Problems or Bonuses

After a long day of travel upon our arrival, the owners greeted us with wine and snacks, and were kind enough to stock our kitchen with a few breakfast items (including milk, coffee, eggs. etc,) for the next morning so we didn't have to worry about getting food right away. That was wonderful and unexpected! Fiore, Marzia, and Alice were extremely gracious and thoughtful hosts - we felt immediately at home and in good company with the other guests.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We worked directly with the owners of this property through their website. Everything they mention about their property is spot-on. No surprises.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would absolutely recommend this property to our friends. Every review I read about this place was absolutely accurate. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. If not for the hospitality and lovely setting, its location can't be beat.

Things to do in this area

Le Manzinaie - peaceful settings, relax, enjoy the pool, admire the roses and gardens.

Montepulciano - wander the streets enjoy the cafes and many amazing restaurants, tour the Conducci Palace and taste Vino Nobile!

Chiusi - our favorite small town - enjoy the best pizza on earth at the restaurant next to the bell tower. After that, walk across the street for really good gelato. Tour the Etruscan museum and ancient underground aqueducts, ending with a climb to the top of the bell tower for an incredible view of Tuscany/Umbria.
