2bed/2bath apartment in Piazza Colonna, Rome WhenJune 2012, 2 days LocationIt was right in the middle of everything, good location. Walk to all the sights, close to restaurants and shopping. Quiet of road noises. Nearby AmenitiesYou could get coffee and sweet rolls right next door or also around the corner. Groceries were about two blocks away and restaurants were all around. Everything was within walking distance. The House/ApartmentThe building was 15th century and was not well taken care of. The building was quiet only heard church bells. The staircase going to living quarters was circular and tricky to maneuver. The furniture was well worn. The staircase to the second floor was almost dangerous. Our rental was late June and the upstairs bedroom was very hot, we had four adults and one child in the apartment and were not at all cramped. GardenThere was a private patio/balcony but we did not use because of the heat. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was run down but serviceable. It was comfortable, but I would have felt better if it was clean! There were bugs crawling on the kitchen counter, the refrigerator and in the cabinet with the plates. There were also bugs in upstairs bathroom. This could have been a really nice rental if it was taken care of. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe apartment had two double beds and a sofa bed that was queen size. I suppose if you were a bigger family, you could also sleep on the extra sofa. There were enough bathrooms for us, however the upstairs toilet made an awful lot of noise when it flushed. KitchenI would not cook anything in that kitchen, it was dirty and at night it looked like the counter was alive with bugs. We needed to use plates for breakfast and I washed all the plates and silverware before using. There was only one dish towel. Problems or BonusesThe surprises were stated above in the bugs in the kitchen and bathroom. The upstairs bedroom had two fans and an ironing board and iron. There also was a new, large TV. Agency and Representatives (and price)It was easy to book and they answered all of my questions and cash was needed to pay the balance. The onsite person was very nice, but did not speak any English. I was disappointed and would look harder the next time. This would have been a great value if in better shape. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would not stay there again under any circumstances, even if it was cleaned up, the stairs to the second floor were dangerous. Things to do in this areaThere was a great shopping mall right across the street. We stopped at a restaurant a half block from the apartment that was very good.
