Review 5392: Owner, L'Arena (#121848)

Review by Nwlogan from CA

4bed/2bath apartment in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna

June 2012, 1 week

Located on via Indipendenza, a main thoroughfare of Bologna that connects the train station and Piazza Maggiore. Very central and convenient.

Nearby Amenities

Many restaurants and bars on the street and surrounding area; a five-minute walk to the grocery store that is open until 9pm six days a week and on Sunday mornings (very useful if you arrive on Saturday as we often do).

The House/Apartment

Older but well-maintained building with elevator. Very quiet as most other apartments were offices. The only noise, even at night was when the Azzurri won Euro Cup games and the crowds filled the street below.

Apartment had four bedrooms though one was used as a catch-all with a table and chairs and a desk in addition to the single bed. (We used it for drying laundry.) One other bedroom had a twin bed, the other two had a king that could be split into two twins.

Two bathrooms, one at the end of a hall near the kitchen, the other in the back that was reached by walking through the kitchen. Air conditioning in the three main bedrooms and hallway area near the bathroom and kitchen. We were there during an unusually hot period and it worked well, especially considering the high ceilings.

No outdoor area other than a small balcony off the kitchen that had only standing room for putting out laundry.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Furniture was sufficient, ample seating in dining and living areas. There were nice marble floors, antique furniture and high ceilings.

The beds were comfortable (and I'm really "discriminating" about that) and bedroom furniture was largely antique: big wooden beds, dressers and armoires. Plenty of drawer and closet space which is nice when you are staying for a week.

Two bathrooms: one with just shower, the other with a tub/sower combo. Bathrooms were quite dated, especially the main bathroom and kitchen. All perfectly functional however.

Kitchen was a typically small Italian one. Functional but dated in decor, and equipment.

Problems or Bonuses

Not really.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Owner was very friendly and easy to deal with, especially when I had trouble with PayPal while reserving the apartment. They met us at the apartment and spent half an hour showing us around and came by to help us figure out the TV so we could watch the big soccer game (on the tiny TV). The price was great - especially if you are splitting it between two or three couples. It was my consolation for the minimal disappointments of the decor.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

It was a lot of space for the money and the location was very convenient, so I would recommend it, but I personally prefer to stay in a place that is a bit more modern.

So many restaurants! Go to the restaurant reviews here and you'll find many of them very close by.
