Politian Apartments on Via del Poliziano, photo by Robert Rogers

September 2012, 1 week

We arrived in Montepulciano after a short drive from Orvieto, and following owner Giacomo's excellent directions, we were able to locate via Poliziano and park our car. There is ample parking along via Poliziano and in the Piazza Santa Maria if you are a guest at the apartments.

We were met by Maria, Giacomo's sister, who gave us the keys to via Poliziano #40, and led us up two short flights of stairs to apartment number 1, our home for the next week.

A large sky light above the apartment door illuminates the marble floored hallway, decorated with a large green potted plant, with brilliant sunlight. Upon entering, you notice a large, antique wardrobe at the end of the twenty five foot long hallway with terra cotta tile flooring. To the right, the living room, with a large, working fireplace, which, unfortunately, we did not need to use during our stay. Two comfortable sofas, a coffee table, a flat screen TV, a desk in the corner, near the floor to ceiling window, with a laptop computer and complimentary WiFi, which I found to be very useful. Several antique furniture pieces, and built in shelving with a wide array of books for a relaxing read if one desired.

To the left, the kitchen, adequately sized, with a refrigerator and freezer, gas stove, sink, and dishwasher and microwave oven. Another antique, glass door cabinet that stored the dishes and glasses, and a table with two chairs and enough room for two people to sit and dine comfortably. At the far end of the kitchen, a floor to ceiling, shuttered window that opens to the back side of the building overlooking a quaint garden.

The bedroom is next on the right, with a very comfortable queen sized bed, a large wardrobe, chest of drawers with a large mirror, and of course, another floor to ceiling window that provides spectacular views of Val D'Orica.

Lastly, across the hall is the bathroom and it is just that, a bathroom. Well lit with a pedestal sink and standard shower stall.

Located on the southwest end of town, the highest part of Montepulciano, the views from the apartment are wonderful. You can walk to any part of town in just a few minutes. It's very close to many shops and many of the finest restaurants in Montepulciano.

Overall, the apartment is clean, quiet and comfortable. Wonderfully decorated with antique Tuscan furnishings and art work, It's very functional, very livable, and, with such gracious hosts as Giacomo and Maria, a place we were proud to call "Home" for our week in Montepulciano.
