Review 5453: Bonclerici House, Open Space
apartments in Cagli, Marche
October 2012, 4 nights
The Bonclerici House is made up of several apartments in Cagli. Two of the apartments, Square and Garden, are in the home of the owners, and they are pictured on the website. We stayed in Open Space, an apartment that is also in the town of Cagli but is a block or so away from the owner's home. When I contacted the owner, Simone, he indicated that the apartment I asked about (Square) was already booked. He sent me pictures of Open Space, and we decided to stay there. All the Simone's apartments are in the beautiful village of Cagli.
Cagli is a small village in the Marche region. It's a great location to explore this area. The apartment, Open Space, is within the historic area of town. There was parking right outside our door.
We could easily walk to several very nice restaurants in town. The nearest grocery store was about a block away, and there were two nice cafe/bars on the square that was two blocks away. It's a small village, and everything is easily within walking distance.
This is truly a beautiful apartment in a historical building! The pictures make it look nice, but it's even nicer than the pictures show. The main room is quite large with a desk, couch, and chair. The bathroom is off of this main room. There's an open stairway leading to a large loft above the main room where there's a queen-sized bed and a dresser. Also off of the main room is a separate room that contains the kitchen and an eating area. The cooking area is against one wall, and there is a nice table and chairs for eating in the apartment. There's also another couch in the kitchen area.
We were told by the owner that there was a way to join this apartment with another one they own in this same building if you were traveling with a family or with multiple couples. We didn't see the other rooms, but I believe it was accessed from the kitchen, and contains another bedroom and bathroom.
Open Space doesn't have an outside sitting area, but the apartments in the owner's home have access to a beautiful garden area in the backyard.
The apartment is very spacious and has wonderful windows and lighting. And the owners have put a lot of thought and effort in decorating the apartment with quality antiques and nice artwork. Everything was immaculate, and we really felt very comfortable there.
The bed was very comfortable and had nice linens. The bathroom was well laid out and spacious.
The kitchen was well-equipped with all the essentials. We didn't eat any dinners there, but I think we could have cooked some basic meals. It is not a gourmet kitchen, but it worked fine for our use.
Problems or Bonuses
The only surprise we had with the apartment was that it was more spacious and beautiful than we imagined from the pictures. It was a great place to stay!
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Simone was delightful to work with. We received wonderful communication before we arrived (his English is very good), and he seemed eager to answer any questions we had. He met us on the edge of town and we followed him to the parking area for the apartment. Also, he has prepared a very detailed book of local itineraries which was amazing! He's very proud of the area in which he lives, and he genuinely wants others to experience it. As soon as we arrived, he gave us information about local festivals that would be held while we were there, and he even called to make an appointment at a vineyard for us. We couldn't have asked for a more helpful individual to give us advice. He is aware of the Slow Travel site, and he feels that this is the kind of travel he wants to promote in the Marche region.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
The apartment does not have WiFi, but there are two bars in the main square that will give you their passwords if you ask.
We would absolutely stay there again, and we highly recommend any of the apartments in the Bonclerici House in Cagli!
Things to do in this area
We enjoyed visiting the tower/fort in town. If you go, be sure to also visit the basement and the secret passageway with over 300 steps! There are several very nice restaurants in town too, and it was especially nice to be able to walk to any of them.
