Review 5467: Gorgacce Rentals, Ca' Spadolino

Review by Jean from WI

3bed/2bath house in Spello, Umbria

October 2012, 1 week

Ca'Spadolino is located in the upper part of Spello. It's directly above a bar in a wonderful residential area. The apartment is on three different levels.

Nearby Amenities

You can walk to anything you need from this apartment. There's a wonderful bakery just down the street, and you can simply go downstairs below the apartment for your morning cappuccino.

The House/Apartment

The building is historical and in excellent condition. Even though the bar was below us, I never heard any noise from there. Occasionally, I'd hear a car drive by in the early morning or kids going to school, but that was the only thing I heard. I never heard noise from other buildings.

When you enter the apartment, you start by going up a flight of stairs to the main level. There's a small kitchen, living area and dining area. If you continue up the stairs, you'll come to a small bedroom plus two large bedrooms both with queen beds. One of the bedrooms has its own bathroom plus there is a full bath in the hallway that also contains a nice washing machine. If you go up the next flight of stairs, you'll see the private terrace.

There's a fabulous terrace on the top floor of the apartment. It's very private and overlooks the entire valley. We loved sitting up there, and fortunately, the weather allowed us to take advantage of it while we were there. We also used the terrace to dry our clothes.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything about this apartment was perfect for us. We were very comfortable sitting in the main room where there are twin loveseats. Although there were just two us, this apartment would also be comfortable for four or five people.

The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were spacious. The bathrooms were also very nice.

We did some cooking in this kitchen, and although it is small and really only allows one person in at a time, all the necessary utensils are there. We cooked several dinners here, and it was fun.

Problems or Bonuses

We were surprised at the amount of space in the apartment. It was bigger than I imagined. And the view from the terrace was more beautiful than I expected! All good!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We booked this apartment through Gorgacce Rentals in England. We booked through their representative (Emma) who lives in Umbria (but not in Spello). I confess I was a bit confused about the agency and the representatives. I assumed Emma would be there when we checked in. Our instructions were to go to the "office" where we would be taken to the apartment. When we arrived at the address, it was the In Urbe bar that is located on the ground floor of our apartment. The people there were wonderful and helped us get settled into the apartment, but they spoke no English. We never did speak with Emma once we arrived. I'm not sure, but I think you can also rent this apartment directly from In Urbe and perhaps other agencies. I'm not sure who actually owns the apartment. But I'll emphasize that all of them were great to work with; I just found all the players confusing.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely recommend Ca' Spadolino to anyone going to Spello. It was a wonderful place for us to call home for our week there.

Things to do in this area

Don't miss the bakery down the street. We had some nice meals in Spello but none of them really stand out as being fabulous. One of our favorite lunches was sandwiches we made ourselves with bread from our bakery, pork from the weekly market, and some wonderful cheeses.
