apartments in Lecce, Puglia WhenNovember 2012, three nights LocationPalazzo Bernardini located in the heart of Lecce, deep within the Baroque center of the city. The building is surrounded by other residences, within easy walking distance of all the historic sites of the city. Staying here made you feel truly a part of the city and we liked the area very much. Nearby AmenitiesCafes, bars, entertainment, groceries, and restaurants, as well as historic monuments are all within a few minutes walk on level ground. While the streets are open to (restricted) auto traffic, for most of the time the traffic is relatively light and not intrusive. The House/ApartmentThe palazzo is quite historic, being a 19th century fusion of three separate Renaissance buildings. Parts of the building are under renovation, and at present there are only two units mentioned on the owner's web site, but the apartment we rented is a third one, listed on HomeAway at: #p462946. It was in excellent condition and quite cozy GardenThe palazzo has a private garden area, and in addition the apartment has a private terrace which looks out directly at the duomo. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in good condition and there was adequate seating for a couple. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bed was firm and comfortable and the bedroom was nicely equipped. Two bathrooms were more than adequate for two people, and the main bath was larger than most bedrooms in Italian rentals. There was a jacuzzi tub in this bath as well as a lounge chair. KitchenWe did not cook in the unit as we were only staying in Lecce for three nights. While it seemed adequately equipped it is quite small. Problems or BonusesThe views from the unit were spectacular. The courtyard entry and dual stairways make for a grand entrance, and the unit comes with a parking pass that allows your car to be kept close by or, if there is no convenient parking available, you can park in the courtyard of the building. Agency and Representatives (and price)Nico was a delight and a pleasure to work with. Family members still live in the building and the "office" is in their living room, which was a charming insight into their lives ... filled with interesting pictures and effects. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would absolutely stay in Palazzo Bernardini again, and highly recommend it, with no qualifications. As I have had time to reflect on this stay in Italy, both Lecce and Palazzo Bernardini have grown increasingly attractive to me and both are now treasured memories This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
