3bed/2bath villa near Amalfi, Campania

When

26th April 2003, 1 week

Location

Fabulous location - on coast road between Priano and Amalfi. Villas on either side but very private & quiet. Stunning views across the Med. Lovely terraced gardens down to the sea - lots of steps, but well worth it.

Nearby Amenities

Garage and Bar just across road, otherwise Priano was just 5-10 mins drive one way and Amalfi 10-15 mins the other. Bus stop about 1-2 min walk. Restaurants in Priano - we tried to find a bad one but couldn't!!!! Our fav was La Strada in Priano.

The House/Apartment

A lovely villa, filled with ceramics, photos and pictures. If you like the sterile perfection of 4-5 star hotel, this is not for you. If you want to feel at home, this is the place. The fact the electric went out when we put the washing machine on was all part of the charm. Nothing could detract from the overall beauty of the villa. To sit out on the balcony every morning and evening and enjoy the sound of the waves hitting the rocks below, to smell the Jasmine and marvel at the azure sea, whilst sipping on the local Limoncello -ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Garden

A private garden, terraced and tumbling down the cliff. Real lemons on the tree!!! Wonderful.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Very clean villa - furniture was comfy and in keeping with the whole decor. We had more than enough for the 4 of us.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Yes, very comfy. For USA & UK citizens - in keeping with all of Italy the beds are twins put together. This didn't bother us at all - the rooms were very clean and comfy. I loved the balcony that ran along the outside of the 2 main rooms. We slept with our french windows open, soothed by the sound of the sea -we woke to the sights and sounds of local fishermen pulling in their nets. The weather was very hot - mid 80's and yet the rooms were lovely and cool.

Kitchen

Had everything we needed. As complete coffee freaks another coffee pot would have been great BUT - it didn't spoil our enjoyment and we loved using the mocha pot there. Ample cutlery, crockery and glasses. We cooked a couple of big evening meals and had breakfast every day - we always had enough pots, pans, dishes etc.

Problems or Bonuses

The fresh fruit and wine basket was a lovely thought. I was surprised that the house was so well equipped. There was a cd player, dishwasher, washing machine. The villa representative went through everything and left his number in case of problems - we never used it.

The big wicker basket in the sitting room full of books and info on the area and what to do, was a brilliant idea - we spent many an hour looking through and deciding our trips out.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Fabulous. Can't praise Luca and Summer in Italy enough. It was our first visit to Italy so I was constantly asking questions, all were answered promptly and politely. Every request was met and the whole process was just so smooth and trouble free. I would have no qualms using this company again.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would stay again and again and again. We wished we'd booked 2 weeks!!! I had my best friends with me but I'd certainly take anyone here. The only qualifier would be, there are a lot of steps and it is built into the cliff, in an area of cliffs. If you are scared of heights or have mobility problems this might not be for you. Personally, I found this whole area of Italy breath takingly beautiful and the local Italian people some of the warmest, kindest and most hospitable I have ever met.

Things to do in this area

We went to Grotto Smeraldo, Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, Priano, Pompei and Capri - we hardly scratched the surface of things to do. The local market in Priano was fabulous - Hello Silvio! Favourite restaurant was La Strada in Priano highstreet. The villa was so great I could just have sat on the terrace sipping wine admiring the views and soaking up the sun!!!! The Villas Cimbrone and Ruffalo in Ravello were well worth a visit.
