4bed/3bath house near Castellina, Tuscany Chianti When10/3/98 - 10/17/98, 2 weeks ReviewThe people at Villas d'Italia were very professional, easy to work with, and followed up quickly with answers to our many questions. There were 3 other couples of friends who stayed at the villa with us, for a total of 8 people. The villa Poggio is about 3 miles south of Castellina in Chianti in Tuscany. It is situated 30 miles south of Florence and 10 miles north of Siena in a rural farm area with lots of vineyards. The villa is described as "rustic" in the book we received from the D'Antonis. It has 4 big bedrooms, 3 nice bathrooms, a large living room with fireplace, a dining room, a laundry area, 2 patios, and a large kitchen with eating space. The kitchen is fairly well equipped, except we missed our food processor, dishwasher, microwave oven, and blender. We used it to prepare all breakfasts and over half of our dinners. Each family brought their favorite Italian cookbooks and we took turns fixing dinners for the group. The villa grounds are fenced, extensive (nearly 2 acres), the lawns are well kept, and there is lots of statuary. The villa is a restored farmhouse with no other buildings nearby, so it is very peaceful and quiet. We had a problem with one of the toilets and a plumber was sent out that evening to repair it. We complained (when we returned to the US) that some of the living room furniture was not in good shape and we are told that it has now been replaced. The beds are wonderful. We had very few surprises as the information we received matched the conditions that we encountered. The location is great for day trips into Tuscany, Chianti and Umbria.
