apartments in Montepulciano, Tuscany South

When

March 2013, 9 days

Location

This was a perfect in town apartment with sweeping views of the Tuscan countryside and easy access to everything in town by foot. Montepulciano is a perfect location for day trips to Montalcino, Pienza, Orvieto, Siena, Cortona and many beautiful little hill towns and interesting attractions.

Nearby Amenities

We left our car parked for several days and found everything we needed in easy reach. From the wonderful Caffe Politziano we visited each morning to dozens of cantina and enoteca and little cheese and salami shops, green grocers, bottle gas and even full- fledged Conad groceries store, everything is close by. Montepulciano is a hill town, and the apartment is at the top of the hill, so you do need to be prepared for some exercise, but after all the delicious food and wine, we welcomed it.

The House/Apartment

This historic apartment building is very well kept and charming. The apartment is on the third floor with gorgeous views out the front and a pretty garden view out the back. There are four rentals in total and a few other apartments occupied by family members. It is very quiet and peaceful. The apartment itself is spacious, with a good sized bedroom, living room with fireplace, TV, books, and CD player. The kitchen is well-equipped and we alternated cooking in with eating out. The bathroom is very spacious and modern.

Garden

They are currently restoring the garden. It was early in the season, so sitting out was not really of interest, but I would imagine you would be welcome to sit out if you wished. There are also stone benches across the street with gorgeous views and even a childrens' playground just below.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture is attractive and comfortable. The good-sized living room has two love-seats and a desk and chair. The table in the kitchen would seat four comfortably. I think the apartment is perfect for two, I would rent a two bedroom for four to sleep comfortably.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bed was perfect, with nice linens and a down duvet. The pillows were very firm for my taste. The bathroom is large by Italian standards and very well-equipped including a small washing machine, which we used. (There is a drying rack, iron, ironing board in a closet.)

Kitchen

The kitchen is very usable and we enjoyed clicking in. There is a dishwasher, which we didn't use. There is everything you need to happily prepare meals.

Problems or Bonuses

Giacomo, the owner, was on hand to greet us and provide assistance, recommendations and ideas any time we needed them. He speaks perfect English and is a very charming and welcoming host.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We dealt directly with the owner who was a pleasure to work with.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

This was the perfect home-away-from home for us. Friends who have been back several times recommended it to us, and we couldn't have agreed more - we hated to leave and would definitely go back.

Things to do in this area

We loved Montalcino, visited Banfi Castle and wine tasted there which was a great experience although a huge winery ... it is worth the visit for the gorgeous buildings and setting. We would have loved to visit some smaller vineyards. We loved Orvieto - gorgeous Duomo and interesting tour of two of the 1200 subterranean Etruscan caves. San Antimo for Gregorian chants, a circle walk from Pienza through the rolling countryside and back, market days, hill towns galore and gorgeous scenery around by corner.
