Review 5550: Views on Venice, Ca' Delle Mende - #244

1bed/2bath apartment in Dorsoduro, Venice

May 2013, 5 nights

The apartment is located in a very quiet area of Dorsoduro, near the Peggy Guggenheim museum. It is convenient from both the Accademia and Zattere vaporetto stops (two bridges to cross for either one). It appeared to be the only rental apartment in the building.

Nearby Amenities

Plenty of cafes and restaurants near by and the Billa supermarket is at the far end of the Zattere.

The House/Apartment

The apartment was extremely quiet, on the second (Italian) floor with no elevator. There was one full bath with shower and a second half bath. The internet access worked flawlessly and the air conditioning worked well enough for us.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything in the apartment was in good shape but there were aspects that were not as clean as it could have been (dust/dirt in the corners of some rooms, dust on things in the kitchen). From looking at the booking calendar on the web site it appeared that it had not been rented for a couple of months prior to our arrival.

The bed was comfortable and had nice pillows. There was an extra set of pillows provided for the sofa bed as well. We slept quite well with the comfort of the bed and quietness of the apartment.

There was plenty of vanity space in the bath but there were no outlets. The shower had fair water pressure and the temperature fluctuated.

We didn't cook but the kitchen seemed well equipped, including oven. There was also a washing machine in the kitchen that worked quite well and quickly based on other experiences with Italian washing machines. There was a clothes line outside the windows as well - accessible only by this apartment.

Problems or Bonuses

The apartment was a mixed bag. We loved the location and how quiet it was as well as the comfort of the bed. We could overlook the inconvenience of no outlets in the bath. The big negatives for us were the water pressure and temperature fluctuation in the shower, tolerable but not ideal and the surprise we had on two days to have ants in the bedroom (a run along the exterior wall). They disappeared on their own after two days. If we hadn't had the ants I think we would have had a more positive experience. We definitely noticed some of the lack of cleanliness as we looked around closely at the floors for ants anywhere else - otherwise I'm not sure we would have noticed.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We had rented from Views on Venice in the past and I would continue to recommend them as an agency.
