Review 5586: Le Casine di Castello, Il Nido
studio apartment in Castelmuzio, Tuscany South
June 22-29, 2013, one week
We were in a studio apartment (Il Nido) in the medieval village of Castelmuzio at the top of a hill - about 15 minutes outside of Pienza. It was a beautiful little village - very quiet but very friendly. Everyone said hello when out for a walk. Even though we had another apartment on top of ours (we were on the ground floor and had a lovely patio), it was very quiet.
There was a coop where we could grocery shop just around the corner and down the street. They had everything we needed. There was also a restaurant within a short walk just up the street on a small piazza.
When you opened the street level door to our apartment, you descended several steps (this is a very lovely, decorated area) to the studio apartment door. There was one other rental above us - it had two bedrooms, two baths. We had the living area with a farmhouse table and kitchen, the bedroom alcove with a canopied bed, and a large bathroom. It was decorated very nicely and every amenity was provided. A large basket of breads, cookies, biscotti, fresh garden vegetables, wine, fresh fruits and pastries was provided, and the kitchen had coffee, tea, olive oil, seasonings, etc. The owners left us milk, juice, fresh farm eggs and more in the little refrigerator - all for our use.
We had our own private patio area with beautiful plants, a covered table with two chairs, and two lounge chairs. We also had barbecue for grilling, and a rack to dry our clothes in the Tuscan sun. The two apartments shared a washing machine.
The apartment was extremely clean and the furnishings were lovely. It was decorated very nice and extra touches were taken - ribbons with flowers around the towels and in the bed canopy ... very sweet.
The queen canopied bed was in a domed alcove and was very romantic. There were four pillows and the linen was spotless. The bathroom was very large and had a large shower, toilet, bidet, sink area with storage and all amenities, including all bath products and a hair dryer.
This was only a studio apartment designed for two at the most but the kitchen had a full set of dishes/glasses/pots and pans, coffee makers of different sizes, etc. It did not have an oven, just a gas stove top, but there was a microwave, refrigerator and grill outside for our use.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We booked with the owner direct. Isabella speaks English and the price was just as reflected.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would stay here again in a heartbeat. There are several different properties - at first we were trying to stay at the agroturismo (Cretaiole), which is beautiful and we had 100% access to (they have a large garden from which we could help ourselves to whatever was ripe) but it was filled, so we took Il Nido in Castelmuzio and loved it. I never heard one word of disappointment from any of the others that were staying during our week and several of those were return visitors.
Things to do in this area
We went on wine tastings to four different wineries in the area arranged by Isabella and her crew, we went to a cheese tasting, and we relaxed.
