Review 5592: Lucca Holiday Homes, Residenza Antiche Scale - 9

Review by NinaF from NY

2bed/2bath apartment in Lucca, Tuscany North

June 29-July 6, 2013, 1 week

The building is in a great location in the center of Lucca but on a relatively quiet street (Via Guinigi).

Nearby Amenities

Everything we needed was a short walk away, including the Despar supermarket in Piazza del Carmine and the entrance to the walls.

The House/Apartment

The building has been carefully and beautifully renovated. The apartment is on the third (European second) floor; there are 48 steps to climb. My husband and I have stayed in several different rental apartments in Lucca, and this was the best one yet. We were amazed by the spaciousness of the rooms and the height of the ceilings.

There is no outside area.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment is attractively and comfortably furnished. There was ample seating for the four of us in both the kitchen and living room. I particularly enjoyed the luxurious chaise lounge.

Both bedrooms are large and attractive. Unlike in many of the two-bedroom apartments we have rented, there was little difference in space or amenities between the master and the second bedroom; the main difference is that the master bedroom has a bathroom en suite. Both bedrooms are air conditioned. On the hottest afternoons, we ran the air conditioning in the bedrooms with the doors open and circulated the cool air into the living room with a fan, which made it quite comfortable.

The kitchen in this apartment is huge! The appliances (oven, stove-top, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and toaster) line one wall, and there is a big table with seating for six in the middle of the room. We cooked several full meals and found more than adequate pots, pans, and utensils.

Problems or Bonuses

There were only good surprises! The photos on the website are accurate, but the rooms were even bigger and lovelier than we expected.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Lucca Holiday Homes is a wonderful agency to deal with. Debora was helpful and professional, and her detailed instructions and recommendations were most welcome. I was very pleased with the ease of booking and the prompt responses to my inquiries.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would definitely stay at this apartment again and would recommend it highly to friends.

Things to do in this area

We enjoyed being back in Lucca and showing our friends around. My husband and one of our traveling companions made use of the bikes that were included in the rental. We spent time walking and biking on the walls, sampling as many gelato flavors as possible, and taking an occasional day trip. We had a memorable dinner at Ristorante da Francesco near Piazza San Michele.
