Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 5658: Summer in Italy, Casa Farfalla
1bed/1bath house in Praiano, Campania
Sept 9 thru Oct 9 2013, 5 weeks
Though each of the other communities had their appeal, they were all to one extent or another very "touristy"...fun to visit but not where I wanted to immerse myself in Italian (real) life. Praiano was perfect. A small, quaint family oriented town (mostly families with kids) centrally located on the southern Amalfi coast. A 15 minute walks down to an incredible, secluded beach located in an alcove nestled by these incredible cliffs as backdrop. The bluest Tyrrhenian Sea as waterfront. We have stayed in Praiano several times before, so I knew that was where we would go for five weeks. This Casa was just steps away from the main road. It faces the sea. Not a lot of noise. Great views.
Casa Farfalla is perfectly located. Not a lot of steps to get to other places in Praiano, which is very important. Except for the beach, but there is also a bus for that, or you can go to another town for a beach day.
Farfalla is close to everything. La Stradaís is just across the road from Farfalla. Donít miss it! Upstairs garden if beautiful at night to eat pizza, or a fabulous meal. You will not be disappointed. Genneros is wonderful also, I know you will love it to. Two of our very favorites.
Just a few doors down from Casa Farfalla, in the morning you can buy fresh seafood. There is also a drug store.
Stop in on the terrace of Bar/Hotel Le Fioriere for wine or coffee, and free WiFi. Sit and relax, us the WiFi, watch the buses and people. You will meet a lot of interesting travelers also.
There is a wonderful Mom and Pop grocery store that will service all your needs, even delivery (at no charge!). The proprietor of this store, Agata and her two sons run the store. Her sons are wonderful, personable fellows, speak very good English and bends over backwards to make you feel welcome, really as did everyone in this community.
The bus runs up and down the coast with a stop right in front of the gate to Casa Farfalla, a fun easy way to navigate the area. And believe me, we ran up and down the coast on the buses.
The property was very clean - one large bedroom, one Queen size bed and one single bed. It is just as the pictures show. We lived on the terrace. It has French doors onto a terrace with the most beautiful view of the sea, and Positano. This terrace was also off the kitchen. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a lot of meals. In five weeks, we did eat in a lot. It is a very large room, with a long table.Everything was perfect. As I stated before, not a lot of steps, only 14. Wonderful house.
The terrace had two beach chairs, and a table and four chairs. There was a roll down shade to block the sun setting as we looked over Positano, and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Watched all of the boats, large and small. We could see the isle of Capri. Wonderful for watching the shipping lanes at night or just looking at the stars. We spent most of our time on the terrace. There is not a living room. But the terrace was all we needed. We loved it. There are cloths lines to dry your cloths, which dry very quickly there.
It was furnished very nicely. Everything we needed. We loved this house and we plan to return on our next trip. We always felt safe. Many nights we came back late. I go alone to Praiano sometimes. I wish I would have known this place years ago.
There was a queen bed, firm as most beds are in Italy. And a twin bed. Bathroom was very clean, as was the whole house. There is an antique dressing table and a large armoire and closet in the bedroom. Two night stands. Beautiful tile through out.
Very large kitchen. The washer was in the kitchen, which was very handy. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a lot of meals. In five weeks, we did eat in a lot. It is a very large room, with a long table. Gemma had stocked the kitchen with everything we needed. You might bring coffee filters for the American coffee maker. We ran out and it was impossible to find any in town. But paper towels worked very well.
Problems or Bonuses
The surprise was Gemma, the owner. Ms. Gemma is wonderful. She speaks very little English, but we had no trouble communicating. I canít say enough wonderful comments about this house or Ms. Gemma. It had to be the very best dream vacation we have ever had. Gemma is the warmest, kindest person you will ever meet.
There is not WiFi in Casa Farfalla, but that ended up being a blessing. We went on the terrace of Bar/Hotel Le Fioriere for wine or coffee, and free WiFi. Sit and relax, us the WiFi, watch the buses and people. You will meet a lot of interesting travelers also. We spent many evenings. Loved the servers also. They were wonderful, even though we did not stay at the hotel. They made us feel like family. The whole town makes you feel like family.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
As always Summer in Italy was great. Always answered my emails as we planned our trip and even had to change our dates. Pictures of rentals are as you see them. I have used them for years. I cannot think of ever changing. Lucca, and Andrea are most helpful.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We are going to stay again, and I did stay with my best friend of 40 years. I would most certainly recommend this house. Everything you need for a week or a month is right thee. The bus stops right out front. There is a fish market in the morning just a few steps away. A drug store, ATM, tourist office are very close.
Things to do in this area
You can ride the bus everywhere. You can even go to Sorrento or Amalfi, Ravello, Positano and many more villages on the bus. There is also taxi service.
From Sorrento you can jump on the train to Naples. Take a ferry to Capri or Ischia. Rent a boat and go along the Amalfi Coast. So much to see and do. Or you can relax and enjoy the views. Breathtaking. I can not stress that enough.
