1bed/1bath apartment near Campo dei Fiori, Rome

October 2013, 7 days

Location is very nice. Right on the Campo di Fiori. That being said along with being on the Campo comes the noise all night long too. Windows when closed still don't drown out all the noise. Ear plugs a must.

Nearby Amenities

Central location, can walk all around Rome.

The House/Apartment

Building right on the Campo. Outside historical and beautiful. Apartment was very noisy being right on the Campo.

You can view the property directly: Amore.

No outside sitting area.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Apartment was not clean. Furniture was dirty and broken down. Nothing like the photos.

The bed was a four inch mattress on top of a huge concrete slap that you had to crawl across to get in or out of the bed. No bottom sheet. Top sheet was used on the bottom and never stayed on. No bedspread or blankets. Just a top sheet on the bottom and a top sheet on the top. Two very old hard pillows.

Oh my what a joke. No hot water in the kitchen at all. Cold plumbed on both sides. No dishwasher. Not sure how the dishes ever really get clean. No wine glasses and the pots and pans are old Teflon with chips out of them. The sink was big and nice.

Problems or Bonuses

Bathtub like the photo shows but with a round plastic shower curtain in the middle. Half hanging there with mold all over it. Sticks to you while your showing. If you don't use it, you flood the bathroom. Huge water mess.

The apartment is not one level. It has stairs to get to the wash machine. Big concrete blocks that you grab the door frame to help lift yourself in and out of it. From the living room you go up and down four steps to the bedroom or the bathroom. Metal steps that make a clanking noise. So if your trying to sleep and someone else is going up and down the stairs you get woke up. Metal steps right next to the bed. None of this is shown on the photos.

From day one the WiFi didn't work and the apartment had no phone. We brought laptops so didn't bring phones. Had to use pay phones to call landlord for four days begging for WiFi. Day five she finally got a router to the apartment. DVD was so old I don't even remember seeing one like it. Of course if didn't work. Was just sitting there not even plugged in to anything.

One of the wrought iron railings across the window was broken on one side. If you would have leaned out of the window or fallen into it, you would have been on the concrete two floors down. My husband was so concerned they weren't going to fix it, he found a hardware store and put in new screws.

All the years we've been renting apartments in Europe this one really was a joke. I posted a review with Friendly Rentals about Amore Apartment on Campo di Fiori but they never posted it. Emailed them several times asking what happened to the review. They only post the good reviews. Renter beware renting from Friendly Rentals. Never again for us.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The landlords daughter checked us in and she spoke perfect English and was very nice. The landlord herself was not friendly and refused to fix anything with this apartment. See above for comments regarding Friendly Rentals.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Things to do in this area

Lots of restaurants and bars all around the campo. Really liked the market in the mornings in the square.
