Review 5680: Angeli's House, Agency Review
1bed/1bath apartment in Trastevere, Rome
2004, 7 nights
We rented an apartment in Roma from Angeli's House for one week in 2004. This was our first apartment rental in Roma and I had dozens of questions. To complicate matters a bit, we had friends who liked "my apartment find" and wanted to rent the week before our dates. As you might imagine, my correspondence with Alessio Angeli was lively and numerous. He was so patient with me, returning e-mails in a timely manner.
As stated on their website, Angeli's House really is a family affair, as Alessio's mother welcomed us to the apartment. Also welcoming us was a lovely bouquet of flowers from our friends! Though Alessio's mother didn't speak English and we don't speak Italian, we had no problem communicating. The only thing that really needed instructions was the washing machine ~ easy enough to pantomime...
Our apartment, Trastevere Penthouse "A", was set on two levels, with the living room, dinning room, kitchenette, and daybed on the first level. It was an open plan sunny room facing the small street, via della Luce. The top level had the master bedroom and full bathroom. From there you could walk out to the small laundry (washing machine!) room, which opened onto the stunning, large terrace with nearly unimpeded views!
We eventually met Alessio, who gave us local restaurant and shopping tips. My husband and he hit it off, particularly when Alessio gave him an introduction to a small "cultural association" ~ really a restaurant with no signage ~ called Sora Margherita, just across the Tiber River in the Jewish Ghetto.
We had a friend who joined us for a few days in the rental, sleeping downstairs in the day bed. Her arrival from Fiumicino was smooth, as Alessio arranged the airport connection with his driver. She had been so nervous about coming into Roma on her own. She now often recounts her evening arrival as rather surreal ~ gliding up to the apartment door in a large black Mercedes, as we waved her over to our table from the restaurant next door. Drinks all round, quickly allayed her fears and helped with her jet-lag...
Alessio's driver/airport connection service was completely reliable. We had occasion to use the driver "twice" on our last day in Roma when Allesio arrived that morning (we had asked if we could leave our luggage and hang-out for that afternoon because our flight to Dubrovnik was an early evening flight ~ no problem!) saying he'd had a call from the next renter saying he had caught an early flight and would be arriving soon! Oh dear, what to do?
We were packed and ready to go anyway, so his driver took us over to another Angeli's House rental ~ Roman Forum "Bramante" unit "B" in Monti. Perfect! We were introduced to a new neighborhood in Roma, had a relaxing lunch, while watching the world go by and had the use of his lovely rental for the afternoon. His driver picked us up at the appointed time and we were on our way.
Alessio's services were wonderfully personal. His apartments (we did experience two...) are well kept and well situated. When I started getting involved with Slow Travel, I was pleased to see so many reviews of his properties with positive reviews.
Note: Our rental, Trastevere Penthouse "A", has been re-modeled beautifully since we rented it. The pictures show a two bedroom/two bath with lovely features and up-grades. The terrace is still stunning! I'd rent it again without hesitation.
