1bed/1bath apartment in Sciacca, Sicily

When

January 2014, One week

Location

The apartment is in an independent building. The owners live in the next yard. The area has modern apartment buildings but they are not close together. It is a short walk into the centro storico of Sciacca. The location has very easy access to the highway. Parking is right outside the building, the area is very quiet.

Nearby Amenities

A small grocery store and a larger supermarket were within easy walking distance. Other small shops and bars were a little further but within walking distance for us.

The House/Apartment

The building is a renovated farmhouse in perfect condition. Each apartment is very private and has its own entrance and small outside sitting area with table. There are seven apartments in the building, we stayed in Hibiscus. The entry is into the open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room. The bathroom is very close to the bedroom.

There was free WiFi and a large TV. A computer was also available in the common area, as was a washing machine, ironing board and iron. Laundry soap was provided.

The apartment was very quiet, but we were the only guests, as it was off-season.

Garden

There is a very nice private little yard with a table and seating. There is no pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything was new and in excellent condition. The furnishings were of high quality, a leather sofa in the sitting area was very comfortable. The apartment was spotlessly clean. The dining table came with five chairs.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bed was comfortable, the bedroom was furnished with high quality night tables and a large wardrobe with drawers. The bathroom was wonderful, there was a large vanity with drawers for storing toiletries, the shower was large and very nice with various shower heads. There was good water pressure, lots of hot water and high quality towels.

Kitchen

The kitchen was very good with plenty of glassware, dishware and cutlery, the only item lacking was a proper knife. Pots and pans were plentiful, there was also a good kettle for making tea. The kitchen had a cook-top and an oven, the refrigerator was a good size. We cooked all of our dinners and made all of our packed lunches, the kitchen had decent counter space.

Some pantry items were on hand as well as dish soap.

Problems or Bonuses

The owners left a lovely hamper of food for us.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owners were terrific to deal with, they responded promptly during the booking process and e-mailed driving directions. The owners lived nearby and spoke English well, they were very friendly and provided a map and a booklet of very helpful travel information, restaurant recommendations etc.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would definitely stay here again and would recommend the apartment without hesitation. The apartments are beautifully done, the tile and paint colors were perfect, nothing was done cheaply. The furnishings were wonderful as was the lighting and heating. All windows had shutters, therefore, one could bring in fresh air while maintaining privacy.

Things to do in this area

We chose Sciacca as a base to explore southwestern Sicily. It was easy driving distance to Palermo, the west coast, the sites of the archaic Greek Temples at Selinunte, Segesta and Agrigento, the beaches of southern Sicily as well as the interior of Sicily. A perfect base with easy access to very good highways with very good signage.

There are a lot of ceramic shops in Sciacca if one is interested in ceramics.
