1bed/1bath apartment near Roman Forum, Rome

February 2014, One week

The apartment is in an excellent location for those interested in staying near the historical sites. The building is very close to the Imperial Forums. We really enjoyed the location as this was our first visit to Rome. The area is very quiet.

Nearby Amenities

The area is great for food shopping, bars, restaurants and is close to the metro. We walked to and from Termini with luggage, in the rain, on arrival and departure!

The House/Apartment

I think the building may be 16th century but has been updated, it is very clean and modern looking. All entrances surround an internal courtyard, there is a small lift but the stairs were easy to ascend.

The entrance is into the open plan sitting room/dining room/kitchen. There is a hallway with plenty of storage cabinets for clothing, a small computer room, the bathroom and then the bedroom at the back. There are many apartments in the building but it was very quiet, we heard a few people singing when we had the windows open, it was very nice.

There was no outside sitting area or pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The sitting room had a sofa bed which was comfortable to sit on for short periods of time, for longer periods it became somewhat uncomfortable. The dining table had six chairs. The apartment was spotlessly clean.

The bed was very comfortable and the bedroom was nice and dark for sleeping. The bathroom was very nice with a large shower with incredible water pressure and plenty of hot water, the water pressure in the entire apartment was excellent. The vanity had numerous drawers for storing toiletries and there was a washing machine in the bathroom, there was no laundry detergent provided.

The kitchen was small but worked well for us even though we cooked six dinners and all of our packed lunches. There was a kettle for making tea and plenty of dishware, cutlery, glassware and pots/pans. There was a cook-top, oven and a full size refrigerator. There were also a number of pantry items.

Problems or Bonuses

No surprises.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owner, Valantino, was just excellent to deal with. He was very prompt in replying and the booking process was a breeze. We communicated via texting and e-mail, he checked in with us to make sure everything was okay. He met us at the apartment and explained everything, he is a very nice person, very helpful and enthusiastic with regard to Rome. Valentino speaks very good English, he had a small, hand-drawn map that was great for helping us get our bearings. He also recommended grocery stores and a bar and restaurant. The apartment has a number of guide books as well.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would stay at the apartment again and recommend it to other travellers without hesitation. It was the warmest apartment we stayed in, perfect for a winter visit, we never turned the heat on and had to open the windows a few times, but we were acclimatized to cold temperatures so that may have had an impact.

The WiFi was free and lightening fast. There was also a large TV. We had a really pleasant stay in this apartment, it is good value as well.

Things to do in this area

We visited a lot of historical sites in Rome and did a lot of walking. The neighborhood is super for shopping. We particularly liked Il Gardino Del Te on Via del Boschetto for fabulous loose-leaf tea. There is a wonderful macelleria on Via del Boschetto and plenty of shops for cheese and meat on Via Cavour. A wonderful place for a drink was in the Piazza Madonna dei Monti, I didnít catch the name, but it is right in the centre of the piazza with a lot of seating outside. We dined out with friends at Taverna dei Fori Imperiali, I really liked the atmosphere and the food was very good.
