apartments in Montepulciano, Tuscany South

March 29-April 26 2014, One Month

The Politian Apartments are located on the southern side of Montepulciano near the Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Servi Church. We loved the location because it was on the edge of town and from our room we had a beautiful view of the vineyards below. Parking was not an issue because there was parking in front of the apartments and in the large lot below. Even though we did not use the local bus, there was a bus stop located very near the entrance of the apartment.

Nearby Amenities

We loved that we could walk a short distance to many coffee shops, wine caves, restaurants and small grocery stores. Conad, a large supermarket, was a little longer walk just outside the walls on the opposite side of the village but we welcomed the exercise and went there often. Also the weekly mercato is very close to Conad's. We shopped there every week for fresh foods and other items. It was fun to shop at the small grocery stores all along the streets of Montepulciano. We made friends with several owners and so enjoyed feeling like a "local" when we greeted them in the morning.

The House/Apartment

The building was very historical and we particularly liked that Giacomo incorporated many family heirlooms into the apartment. Giacomo explained the history of the building which has been in his family for many generations. Everything was in tip top shape. The apartment was well equipped and Giacomo and his sister Maria made sure that we had everything we needed. It was great to have a dishwasher and washing machine in the apartment. The apartment was extremely quiet and homey.

Since our stay began in March, it was a little early to enjoy the beautiful garden. However, as the weather warmed up we were able to take advantage of it. A peaceful area to enjoy a glass of wine, read a book, or have conversations with friends.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was in very good shape and because it was so well equipped, we felt right at home. The staff was very attentive and Giacomo, the owner, helped us many times to figure out places to visit, and was always there to answer questions and give suggestions. His sister Maria was there when Giacomo was away and made sure that we were comfortable. Their housekeeper Jovanna (sure not the correct spelling of her name) is an amazing person and we felt like she was a friend by the time we left. She helped my wife with her Italian which was much appreciated. The apartment was exceptionally clean and comfortable.

The bedrooms views were spectacular and the bathrooms were large and very modern. There were more than enough towels and bedding which were in very good condition. The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of dresser and closet space.

The kitchen was very well equipped with dishware, pots and pans, and kitchen tools. We appreciated that we could have friends over for dinner and everything we needed was supplied.

Problems or Bonuses

The surprise was how much at home we felt at Politian Apartments. When we left, Giacomo gave us a gift of olive oil which were pressed from his olives. It is now sitting on my kitchen counter in Denver where we can be reminded of our dream trip to Montepulciano.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Giacomo and Maria couldn't have been nicer. They spoke English very well and became our Italian teachers when we wanted to know words and phrases. The Politian Apartments were everything they were represented to be. The monthly price that we paid was very much in line with the quality of the apartment.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would highly recommend the Politian Apartments to our friends and family. We felt like we were in our own home. When wife goes back to attend school at Il Sasso again, she would not hesitate to go alone and stay at The Politian Apartments. It is a very safe place for single women to stay.

Things to do in this area

My wife attended Il Sasso Language School. She enjoyed it and learned a great deal. She is already planning to go back. We visited most of the wine caves in the town and never had a bad meal at any of the restaurants. We couldn't get over the warmth and helpfulness of everyone we met. We were able to visit most of the nearby hilltop villages from Montepulciano and loved each and every one. The churches in and around Montepulciano are well worth visiting and we spent many hours in them for prayer and meditation.

We highly recommend The Politian Apartments and Montepulciano. We can't wait to return.
