4bed/4bath villa in Massa Lubrense, Campania WhenApril, 2003, 2 weeks ReviewVilla Maria is a fabulous property overlooking the Isle of Capri. It is on three floors and each floor has a terrace. There is also a laundry room on a lower level. This is the second home of a family and is well equipped for entertaining. The kitchen is huge and has a built-in charcoal grill, wood burning oven, six burner surface, oven, dishwasher and enough dishes and serving pieces to have a great party. (We felt guilty that we didn't know enough people to have one.) One member of the family is an artist and her art, which is all over the house, is a cultivated taste. There are two living areas, a large dining room, terraces off of the larger bedrooms. It is ideal for three or four couples - and it is expensive. The cleaning fees (mandatory 4 hours a day, 5 days a week and a final cleaning) are excessive and no break is given if there are fewer people (we were only four). There was also a E15 charge for use of the phone. The keyholder and cleaner is Anna, who speaks little English - and less when she really doesn't want to help you. The house does not make you feel as welcome as some others we've stayed in, more like you are a guest in someone else's house, but the setting is spectacular, you can walk into Massa, and it is totally quiet and relaxing. Note of caution: There is only one parking space and it is a very tight fit so you need a small car. This could be a problem if you have a large party. We had a four door Peugot and it was an ordeal getting in and out of the space. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
