3bed/2bath apartment in Oltrarno, Florence
February 9 - 22, 2014, 2 weeks
The apartment is conveniently located just across the Santa Trinita bridge in the Oltrarno area, a block from Piazza Santo Spirito. It is a quiet neighborhood away from the bustle of the more touristy centro. It is the "artsy" section of Florence with artists' shops/workshops throughout. There are many wonderful restaurants in the neighborhood and there is a vibrant nightlife around Piazza Santo Spirito. It is only a 10-minute walk to the Duomo.
There is an excellent supermarket nearby - Sapori e Dintorni on Via de' Bardi near the Ponte Vecchio, a short walk from the apartment. They have everything you need to stock your pantry, kitchen and laundry. We loved several of the nearby bars for our morning cappuccino.
There are three large sunny bedrooms and two bathrooms. The beds are comfortable and linens are cotton. The master bath has a shower; the second bathroom has a tub with a hand-held shower and houses the washer and dryer. There is a huge comfortable living room with a great TV, a large dining room with a table that seats eight, and a kitchen with a dishwasher. The pictures on the website accurately represent the apartment.
There is no outside sitting area, but there are large windows in each room that allow for fresh air if you want that. It was February when we were there so mostly our windows were closed.
All the furniture was new, modern, and in perfect condition. The apartment was spotless.
Problems or Bonuses
The apartment is located on the top floor. There is no elevator. There are 66 steps to climb up to the apartment, but it wasn't a problem for us. In fact, we came to appreciate it after eating our way across the city every day! We ranged in age from 32 to 65 and none of us felt the stairs were a burden, but I feel it's important to mention in case that would be a deal breaker for potential renters.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We booked the apartment through HomeAway.com. Our host, Rosamaria, spoke perfect English and she did everything she could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Despite the fact that she was in New York on business the week we were there, she promptly answered the emails I sent her asking for suggestions. One evening we locked ourselves out of the apartment so I called her. She immediately contacted her husband who came right over and let us in to get the key. He was there in less than 10 minutes.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would absolutely stay in this apartment again. I would not hesitate to recommend the apartment to others.
