apartments in Sorrento, Campania WhenJune 2003, 7 days LocationThe apartment was in a block of 10 apartments located on the edge of the city of Sorrento. The majority of apartments had a private balcony or terrace although my apartment did not, and we shared a sun terrace with a neighbouring studio apartment. As mentioned in Pauline's review it is near to the main road but the lemon and orange trees deaden most of the noise from there. More of a problem, noisewise, is the Via Marina Grande which runs in the gorge under the property but it never became intrusive as the apartment is fully double glazed. Nearby AmenitiesThe property is about a 5 minute walk to the main road, Corsa Italia, with numerous restaurants and small supermarkets. The House/ApartmentThe property has been recently renovated and is well decorated. GardenAs previously stated there is both private and shared sitting areas dependant on the apartment allocated. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in good order and was adaquate for our parties needs. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds in my apartment were a bed settee in the living room with a pull out underneath. The bedroom had a double bed which was comfortable. The bathroom was off the bedroom and our children had to come through the bedroom to reach the toilet. I didn't see in any of the other apartments and can't speak about their layout. KitchenThe kitchen consisted of 2 electric rings and a fridge. We intended to mainly eat out so this wasn't a problem to us. Problems or BonusesThe only problem we came across had nothing to do with the apartment but with Italian drivers! They seem unable to drive safely and it seems that stop signs and driving on the right are merely advisory. Expect to meet oncoming traffic and suicidal scooter riders at every corner on the narrow twisty roads around the town. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would definitely visit here again. It is perfectly located for walking into Sorrento and the semi rural location is idyllic. If visiting again I would request an apartment over looking the gardens rather than the ugly car park on the other side. Things to do in this areaA visit to Pompeii is a must, we took the train from Sorrento to Pompeii Scavi as we thought it would be a lot easier than driving. Capri is an easy day trip although the day we went it was windy and the trip across on the Jet boat was very rough and several people were sick. We came back on the normal ferry which was a lot better and we were able to see the lovely scenery of the coast. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
