Review 630: Visit Venice, Casa Battello

Review by jen2003 from UK

apartment sleeps 5 in Cannaregio, Venice

June 2003, 1 week

Having booked cheap four EasyJet flights from Bristol to Venice for my husband and two teenage boys, we were faced with the daunting prospect of finding hotel accommodation. After weeks of trawling the internet looking for affordable accommodation we were fortunate enough to be directed to www.visitvenice.co.uk on the recommendation of a friend of a friend who had stayed at Casa Battello earlier in the year.

We were impressed with the website and the attention to detail so much so that we felt reasonably confident in booking over the internet. We were not disappointed as the extremely high standard of care and attention remained throughout our stay. Travel instructions provided by the owners even included recommendations on where to sit on the plane to ensure the best aerial views of Venice on arrival. They were right too!

We were given very detailed information on how to get to Casa Battello from the airport. It was extremely easy to find as it is located within a few minutes of two vaporetto stops. You can walk there within ten minutes from the main railway station (which has links to the rest of Europe) or 15 minutes from the bus station Piazza Roma! All the famous sights are easy to reach via vaporetto from the local stop, as are the islands and Lido

We found Casa Battello a quiet haven from the hustle and bustle of Venice and were greeted with fresh flowers on arrival. The standard of accommodation was excellent with tasteful decoration and comfortable beds. We really appreciated the super-king size bed in the main bedroom and the portable air conditioning unit which tempered the July heat.

We had budgeted to eat out in the evenings but the quality of food available locally combined with the excellent cooking facilities and utensils (better than we have at home) resulted in us eating at Casa Battello most evenings. For those wishing to eat out there were updated reviews of restaurants to cater for all budgets.

The owners had thought of everything and every eventuality: wellingtons, umbrellas, picnic sets, thermos flask, backgammon; not to mention a variety of guides, art and history books on Venice which made it easy for us to make the most of our time.

We had been to Venice before but fell in love with the Cannaregio area of Venice and on return we shall definitely stay at Casa Battello.
