Review 638: Owner, Bologna apartment

1 bed/1 trundle bed/1 bath apartment in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna

May, 2003, 5 nights

I strongly suggest that when visiting Bologna to avoid this "apartment." I found the listing on 4 different web sites, so many of you may have seen it. First, it is not an apartment, it is a loft. An adult cannot stand up in the bedroom or in 3/4 of the living room. There are no reading lights. In fact, most of the existing lights didn't work at all. The refrigerator didn't work (and all our food spoiled) and the dishwasher was broken. There are 88 stone steps to reach the loft - and no elevator. The owner advertises air conditioning and there is none - not a unit anywhere. It badly needs air conditioning because the bedroom has a "porthole" in the ceiling and the living/dining area has 2 portholes. It is stifling. We told the owner we couldn't stay under the conditions; he agreed to a 50% refund and we moved to a hotel. Now he refuses to give us the refund.

Note from SlowTrav: The provided website, www.evolvecommunications.com/Bologna/index.swf, no longer operates.
