apartments on a farm near Montalcino, Tuscany South WhenJuly 203, One week LocationThis farmhouse was 0.8 kms. from the town of Montalcino, on a working vineyard, above the wine cellar. It was absolutely gorgeous, peaceful and quiet, with wild animals (pheasant, boars, porcupines) running around at night. There were a few other farm houses nearby, but none in our faces. Nearby AmenitiesWe walked into town in 10 minutes, or drove in about three minutes. There is a Co-op grocery stores in Montalcino, and a well-stocked deli at the end of the dirt road that lead to the property. We would park in town and walk to the restaurants, enotecas and trattorias. The House/ApartmentBuilding was in great shape, newly renovated. Very comfortable and large. GardenNo outside sitting area per se, but we had the run of the property and area outside the cellar to ourselves. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasFurniture all new, very attractive and in great shape. The apt. was clean, but we did spray for bugs and could have used those VEET plug-ins to get rid of the spiders. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds were very comfortable, well appointed, very nice. Bathroom was huge, very modern and comfortable. KitchenThe kitchen was wonderful, large and light, well-equipped, even with a dishwasher. All pots etc. were brand new and of very good quality. We loved cooking here and yes, could do full meals. Problems or BonusesOur kids were a little put off by the spiders, but once we sprayed they were fine. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was very attentive and helpful. Tiana was our rep. and she was great. The instructions on arrival and what to expect were perfect. The onsite person was a Scottish woman who was lovely, friendly, helpful and full of very useful information about the area, especially wine. She really went out of her way to make us feel at home. The property was even better than we expected. Note from SlowTrav: As of January 2007, Internet Villas no longer represents properties. They are transferring listings; you may view properties at Villa Escapes. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would love to stay here again and have already recommended it to friends. Things to do in this areaWine, wine and wine. The Banfi castle is very attractive, Barbi winery as well. My husband liked the Altocino winery the best. Restaurants: Fortezza de Brunello (in nearby San Angelo en Colle) for their wine tasting dinner. Really special. Bocca d vino, excellent meals, especially the chingale and sauce, risotto. Enoteca Agridolce in town, try the pecorino with honey there. Also, in the area is a sculpture garden, and we made good use of the public pool in Buenconvento in the hot afternoons. Don't miss the chanting monks at the Sant'Antimo abbey. Otherwise, relax. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
