apartments in a castle, Tuscany Chianti WhenAugust 9th - 16th, 2003, 1 Week LocationThis apartment in a castle from the 14th century is completely authentic, nestled in the hills just south of Montespertoli. Our third time visiting this Castle, so needless to say we love the area and our apartment ( Monte 7 ). This apartment is right beside a large terrace which can be quite active at night, but we are usually out there anyway so this does not disturb us. If you like total piece and quiet I would opt for another apartment, perhaps on the west side of the castle. The apartment contains a small kitchen contained in a large wardrobe, perfect for whipping up quick meals to enjoy on the terrace. Nearby AmenitiesI have walked down the hill to Bacciano for my morning coffee and supplies, it's a quick 10 minute walk and simply beautiful. The nearest Coop is in Montespertoli about a 7-minute drive away. This town also has a number of good resturants, L Art d Vino and Lo Staccio, to name just a couple. The House/ApartmentThis building is full of history, in fact they just published a book about the history of Montegufoni which I am reading right now. Apparently during the war many works of art from the Uffuzi were stored here, Botticelli's "Primavera" being one of the more famous titles that I can recall off hand. All apartments are in good shape, but it is an ancient place so it has its quirks. The castle has approx. 27 apartments with a few dependances ( small houses also avail to rent) on the property. GardenThe gardens are quite expansive and one can almost always find a place to relax in seclusion, although in the summer expect to find lots of kids poolside. Some apartments have their own private terraces while most share a communal terrace. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasAll the furniture was in good shape, and everything is always well kept. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable and the bedrooms were huge. This unit has one large bathrooms which was great (no tub though). The only thing I feel that is lacking is perhaps including a fan for each bedroom. KitchenWell, it's perfect for cooking quick simple meals, but it doesn't have an oven so stovetop cooking is all that one is able to do. More counter space would be great though. Enough dishes to keep everyone sipping wine happily! Problems or BonusesRan into a couple from Delaware who were there because they read my previous reviews! The staff is great especially Stefania who is very helpful. Agency and Representatives (and price)I booked directly and dealt with Stefania, who speaks many languages! Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Well yes, I have about a dozen friends who have stayed here and quite a few others from this web site who have stayed here, everyone seems to love it! Beware that in the summer it is very childreny, which is great if you are traveling with your family, but I would most definatley not stay here in the summer and expect a quiet relaxing time if I was single or childless. I would visit in the fall or spring for complete quiet. Things to do in this areaJust a quick drive to visit the small towns of Chianti. Another quick drive to Florence (parked within 30 minutes at the SMN Parkade) Great ambience! Great place to meet families with buddies for your kids to hang with. Perfectly safe enviroment to leave teenagers for the day while you visit Florence etc. A few good restaurants in Montespertoli, mentioned above. Picking fresh figs from their trees!
