2bed/2bath house in Gioia Tauro, Calabria WhenJune 14-28, 2003, 2 weeks LocationIt was in a village. The location wasn't that great--I found it too close to other homes in the area. The house itself was lovely--very modern, with all of the newest amenities. I wasn't crazy about the actual area--not much going on. But it was within an hour or so of several beautiful beaches, as well as the ferry to Sicily. So there was rarely a shortage of things to do. Nearby AmenitiesI walked to the grocery store on a few occasions. There were more gelaterias within walking distance than there were restaurants, but there were still enough eating options to be viable. The House/ApartmentThe house was in great shape. It was recently remodeled, and it showed. Probably one of the nicest houses in all of Gioia Tauro. GardenThis was one area I was a little disappointed in. There really was no sitting area or garden. There was a balcony, but it was small and overlooked the street. There was no pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in good shape. It was new, just like everything else. It was very comfortable and very clean. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bedrooms were nice, and in pictures I've seen since I rented, there have been even more furniture improvements. The one and a half bathrooms were well-equipped and quite nice-looking. KitchenI didn't cook, but the kitchen had everything I would need if I had chosen to. Agency and Representatives (and price)I was treated very well, both before and during my trip. The onsite person did not speak English, but we were able to communicate nonetheless. The person and his family were very accommodating, inviting me over for family dinner, and I truly felt like I was part of their family. This was perhaps the nicest part of my trip. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would probably not stay here again, only because for my next trip to Italy, I would like to see more of the northern half of this beautiful country. The house itself was great, although as I said, the town itself was a little quiet for my tastes. If you're looking for a laid-back vacation with several different beautiful towns within easy traveling distance, this rental is outstanding. Things to do in this areaSeveral beaches in the area are outstanding, and all are within one hour--Palmi, Reggio Calabria, Tropea, Scilla, and the ferry to Sicily is only one hour away.
