Review 677: Parker Villas, Giardino Delizia
5bed/2.5bath villa near Pienza, Tuscany South
9/13/03 - 9/20/03, one week
Pienza was the closest town, 5 minutes by car. It was surrounded by beautiful countryside. Each morning a shepherd herded his sheep through the pastures across the road. We ran out to see when we heard the bells ringing on the sheep. The villa was completely fenced, but not noticeably due to lots of shrubbery and trees, and gated, so that it was safe for our toddler to run around. The figs were ripe and our delightful owner asked that we help ourselves which we did. Other gated villas were near but you couldn't see them. We loved the area as many small towns were nearby to visit and our family could jog on several back roads just outside our gate.
No, you couldn't walk for coffee or groceries. But someone in our group always trekked into Pienza in the morning to get a USA Today and International Herald Tribune and whatever supplies we needed at the COOP. We ate all our breakfasts at the villa and several other meals as well.
The building was not historical. In fact I believe it is fairly newly built. We used the fireplace several evenings just to take the chill off. The house was in excellent shape and well supplied kitchen, good mattresses and pillows, plenty of towels and wood for fires.
There was no pool and we didn't want one with a toddler around. But the grounds were spacious. Plenty of outside sitting areas, clothesline, bikes, pots of basil for our use etc.
The house was very clean. There were plenty of chairs and couches, comfortable enough.
Beds were comfortable and rooms were spacious. Baths were equipped with hair dryers, plenty of towels, one had a tub which we used for our toddler, and both had showers. Downstairs was a small powder room with just toilet and sink. Toilet tissue was furnished.
Plenty of pots and pans and dishes. We had a microwave, dishwasher, combination gas and electric stove and a washing machine. We did lots of cooking and the only thing missing, and we could understand this, was a sharp knife.
Problems or Bonuses
The property was much more spacious than we imagined and many unexpected supplies like toilet tissue and hair dryers. We had brought salt and pepper and sugar, but all these items were there as well as aluminum foil and clear wrap etc.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We had no need to contact the agency rep assigned to us while there. Our owners were delightful but spoke no English. Our daughter had taken some Italian lessons and so was able to understand fairly well. When we couldn't get the washing machine door to open after a cycle, we had to call the owner and though she was picking grapes that day (they live in Montepulciano), she arrived in about 15 minutes.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Yes I have already recommended this villa to friends.
Things to do in this area
So many hill towns are nearby. They are all fun to visit. Montalcino, Greve, Montechellio, Pienza is charming and small which we liked. We took our toddler to the playground there. Then day trips to Siena, San Gimmy, Volterra. We ate several times at Dal Falco in Pienza and they were so welcoming of our toddler. And the food and wine was great.
