apartments in a monestary near Valino, Tuscany South WhenSeptember 2003, Two weeks LocationProperty was a restored monastery containing several apartments. The property was located in a vineyard outside the small town of Valiano. Valiano is about half way between Cortona and Montepulciano. The setting offered excellent views of the countryside. It was very quiet. The location was an excellent base for touring Tuscany and Umbria. A car would be a necessary if staying here. Nearby AmenitiesA car is necessary to reach shopping and restaurants. The town of Valiano is about 2 miles away. It had one very good restaurant. The House/ApartmentThe building was a very well restored twelfth century monastery. Bathrooms were large and modern. The building contains several apartments of various sizes. We were three couples and were able to rent an entire wing. Each couple had a separate unit with bath, bedroom and kithchen/living room. There was also a large common living room for our use. GardenThere was a large unheated swimming pool, dressing room adjacent to the pool. There were several sitting areas. Bar-b-q grill and laundry room. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe entire property was very clean. The furniture was in good shape. The kitchen furniture was adequate but the living room furniture was inadequate. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were somewhat uncomfortable but not terribly bad. The bathrooms were very nice. KitchenThe kitchen was very modern and usable. There was however inadequate stemware and china. Problems or BonusesThe property was in a beautiful setting and very tastefully restored. It is necessary however to drive for all shopping, restaurants etc. Agency and Representatives (and price)The Parker agency was helpful but should have known more details about the property. The onsite person/owner was very personable. He spoke fluent English. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would recommend this property with the understanding that a car is a necessity. You must be willing to drive at night to reach restaurants, etc. Things to do in this areaThe property is an excellent base for exploring Southern Tuscany and Umbria.
