Review 702: TuscanHouse, Torre San Domenico

Review by Linda from NC from

3bed/2.5bath house in Cetona, Tuscany South

September 2003, 1 week

Torre San Domenico is a tower in the hill village of Cetona. The village is quite picturesque and has all the amenities needed for supplying a rental. We parked our car in the piazza and walked up to the house. It is a bit of an uphill journey, so might not be appropriate for anyone who's not accustomed to walking.

Nearby Amenities

We walked down to the piazza each morning for bread and the International Herald Tribune. We had dinner several times at trattorias in the village and shopped for supplies when we returned from daytrips in the afternoons.

The House/Apartment

The Torre was rebuilt on the remains of a 14th century tower. It is beautifully decorated with a combination of antiques, Tuscan objets d'art, and functional furnishings. It was obvious from the minute we entered, that this is a very special rental property.

There is a lovely terrace overlooking rooftops and the countryside. We enjoyed sitting here after a day of sightseeing. As the owners requested, we lovingly watered all the plants each day. There is no pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

YES, YES, YES!!!! Unlike the villa we rented the first week we were in Tuscany, the Torre's furniture was stylish (and eclectic which added to the charm), in good condition, comfortable and more than adequate for our group of five.

The beds were comfortable, the rooms lovingly decorated by Sacha, and the bathrooms most adequate. The bedroom on the top floor has its own bathroom, the two bedrooms on the next floor share a bath and there is a powder room on the ground floor.

The kitchen work space is small but we had no trouble preparing several dinners and the supplies are bountiful. Sacha is a caterer and she furnished the kitchen for serious cooking.

Problems or Bonuses

The best "surprise" was the hospitality we received from Sacha and Bepe! We engaged them to come to the Torre and cook for us one night and it was certainly one of the highlights of our trip. Great fun and wonderful food!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

TuscanHouse was great! Zak always responded promptly to our questions. We have booked another property for next September with him.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

YES, YES, YES!!!! The only reason we have not rented the Torre for next year is that our goup will be larger and it would not accommodate us.

Things to do in this area

We had lots of day trips from Cetona, all of which have been detailed on SlowTrav and SlowTalk many times. Cetona's proximity to the autostrada makes it an ideal location for daytrips.
